Why Loki's army in THE AVENGERS is NOT like the Transformers

Why Loki's army in THE AVENGERS is NOT like the Transformers

It really grinds my gears when people say "Loki's army (Chitauri) was JUST LIKE Transformers!" when, if anybody took the real time to think about it, they're not.

I'm getting sick of people saying Loki's army in AVENGERS are like the Transformers.... Tell me, how exactly are they like Transformers? Loki's army (The Chitauri) are living, breathing creatures clearly made of ORGANIC MATTER.

They weren't machines, they did not have the ability to change shape (let alone disguise themselves as earthly vehicles), and they weren't 18+ feet tall....

Yes, they had carrier ships (Leviathans (4 of them)) that were armored dragon-like creature things that could possibly resemble a Transformer.... but it was not like one in any way.

They had flying vehicles... but those don't count as Transformers neither since they never "transformed".

Please, explain how this...

...looks like this?

Now, some people have said that this scene from Transformers 3...

...looks a lot like this scene from AVENGERS.

And while it clearly doesn't, I could understand some people's reasoning. Big metal covered thing destroying a building looks like another big metal covered thing destroying a building. But they two are far from similar other than the generalization I just provided. If you're going to use generalizations for everything, you might as well say Serenity and Die Hard are the same because both protagonists use guns.

So, in my opinion, the whole 'Loki's army are just like Transformers' argument is stupid and idiotic.

If people took the time to think about it, instead of just going off what that one chick said on that negative Rotten Tomatoes review (she compared The Avengers to Transformers 3, which proves she didn't actually watch the movie and should get back in the kitchen), they'd realize The Avengers is nothing like Transformers.

And after reading this, you still find yourself believing The Avengers is like Transformers...

i dont think many really think that crap, most is just buthurt dc/nolanites having to pick at something after the way the avengers manhandled tdk and this is about the best they to pick at it.to me i think its cool this is the best they got lmao.

well some play the idiot card and say it took 6 heros to beat tdk. but they cant tell me why watchmen or the x films didnt beat it down like the avengers did so even tho its nit picking the transformer thing is about the best they got and it shows.

Not uh man. My brother's cousin's mother's roommate said she can see Optimus in the background of one of the scenes, and Spidey is helping him out. It's true I swear.

While the Transformers comparisons are annoying, there are some similarities if you look at the setting of the final battle and the way Loki opened that portal to bring in the Chitauri like Dark of the Moon. Other than that, and a somewhat similar style of effects, the actual action of The Avengers is much more varied than a Transformers movie since it has characters with such different abilities.

I agree. To me the Transformers films are boring. Watching something blow up for over 2 hours in each film gets boring after a while. I was so sick of two to get over it was ridiculous. Their jokes aren't funny, there is no story plot in Transformers, and the action scenes are honestly pretty boring. I'm not trying to be rude to Transformers fans but they just blow up things and don't have any fun with it. I know know to me Transformers action scenes are just strange. I feel almost sick after watching them. Whereas the Avengers action scenes were really great. Especially that panning shot over all of the team. Epic. I guess it partially is that I feel for the characters which are fighting in Avengers, whereas you're just watching things blow up in Transformers.

Oh yeah, and Batman people why did TDK do so well at the box office while it took 6 heroes to bring down the Bat? Well lets see... Batman's had how many movies? How many has each of these characters had? Yeah... by the time these characters have half of the movies Batman has, it will be the same numbers or a LOT closer. Not hating Batman. He's one of my favorite heroes.

So yeah. Haters think before you hate. :P Also can't wait till TASM and TDKR! :D

The look of his army is not comparable in any way.

But their goals and certain battle points are.

Avengers was the better film, even though Transformers had more polished special effects.

Why do you care, man? The Avengers comics have been around decades longer than Transformers, and portals to other dimensions/locations have been used in material predating the Avengers. People who complain about that similarity are like those complaining that Cowboys and Aliens is like 3:10 to Yuma... does not merit an article.

i like your point. so if anything, transformers is trying to be like the avengers.

@SaintSpidey67Re
dude, i used mark as an example.(the moron above me) but we get the same bullshit from many people always complaining. i dont mean it in any foul way but you and many marvel fans are now getting a taste of the shit we nolanites been getting since 06'.

but like i said, dont worry. the film kicked major ass, i enjoyed it and im sure you did to. let them talk shit. they'll never learn. trust me, as a nolanite who has been fighting off loads of retards, the ignorant will always stay ignorant. the avengers rocked anything different really at this point seems like bias hate.

Sorry, SaintSpidey, but scientific photographic comparatory techniology has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the climax of Avengers is EXACTLY like TF- Drak of the Moon. Right down to Shia LeBouf. If you don't believe me, you're blind. And possibly a Hollywood star, but I'm not sure who.

I never thought of the similarities between the Chitauri in Avengers and Decepticons in DOTM until this article.

Honestly, I can't blame the people for exclaiming Loki's army are like the Transformers; they are indeed very similar in how they appear near the end of the film and how much destruction the two caused in the respective films.
Alexandre
Alexandre - 5/27/2012, 2:41 PM
ok i only got one thing im confused about.

"Loki's army (The Chitauri) are living, breathing creatures clearly made of ORGANIC MATTER."

then why as soon as their mother ship was destroyed they went down like they were made of machines? they were somehow connected to that ship but how?
Alexandre
Alexandre - 5/27/2012, 2:55 PM
my theory is: since they're aliens after all, this is a strange planet to them so maybe they came here like we do when we go to space with our suits and oxygen tanks.

they came with their suits or armour with some kind of tank or something that allows them to breath while fighting in this strange planet. and when the mother ship gets destroyed, the source goes out as well.

you get what i mean?

antonio - 5/27/2012, 3:26 PM

Actually I felt like I was watching the Star Wars prequels for a minutes at the end....Iron Man blew up the control ship and all the aliens (or robots in Star Wars) fell over dead..it came off as lazy writing. That's only 1 of about 100 things wrong with the Avengers movie. I am a 30 year Marvel fan, btw.

The way I saw it, the Chitauri were prone to going wild on the planet, and the only thing keeping them in line is the threat of death. That's why they're all linked to the mother ship. If any of them stray, then from the mother ship they can just kill them, showing others the consequence of an act like that. It's a stretch, but after blowing up the mother ship, maybe that link being severed killed them all.

Again, it's a stretch.

I'm really surprised at all the Transformers hate! Not gonna lie, I was totally waiting for Optimus Prime to come save the day at any second during that final battle scene of the Avengers. And not gonna lie, I would have loved that, LOL! (They did crossover into the Marvel universe in the comics, so it could totally happen!) They did share a few similarities. The big alien ship (not Shockwave) in Transformers looked very much like the big alien flying turtle/slug things in Avengers. Loki and Sentinal Prime were basically on the same mission - to turn humans into slaves by letting in an alien army. Good guys weren't okay with that and came in, whooped ass and saved the day. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the similarities. That being said, they are different in every other way!

And slight correction, Transformers aren't "machines." They are cybernetic organisms - they are mechanical, but they are living alien organisms with emotions and they can feel pain and die. Saying they are "machines" is a gross understatement.
Tainted87
Tainted87 - 5/27/2012, 6:51 PM
It actually makes perfect sense for the Chitauri to fall over "dead" when the "mothership" is destroyed. Think about it - Loki uses the Tesseract to open the portal, and according to the pact he made with "the Other", in exchange for the Tesseract he will be given an army to conquer Earth. Suppose the Chitauri come pouring in from the portal and suddenly Loki gets the idea to just close the portal off?

Making the Chitauri linked to the "mothership" is a fail-safe to keep Loki from betraying them.

To me, the Leviathons look like whales.

I also think the comparisons are annoying and I did hear them for weeks before the movie was screened. However, I don't think these comparisons should bother you because The Avengers is the superior film. By a monumental margin.

The idea of using enslaved humans was done already in Stargate. It's a concept that has been used all throughout history. Therefore, since both TF and The Avengers make use of it is inconsequential.

While I agree that the Chitauri were weak in battle it was not about their abilities. It was about their sheer numbers. The way I see it is that the lack of ability of each chitauri to think strategically or individually further explains the hive mind as mentioned above. In other words, the chitauri were only meant to overwhelm with their numbers and that alone was (at least at that point) sufficient in Thanos's mind - remember how surprised he was at the fight back from The Avengers. Also, if you think of an army like the Romans, they were trained to be the best. They won because they were the better army. If the Roman army was made up of countless numbers of men, then spending time and resources to train them to fight would be pointless. Any Roman commander could have then just used those numbers to defeat their enemies.

this whole film was like a transformers 3 copy-paste job: the Cube = Tesseract. Big worm-like monster attacks at the end, there are portals that teleport a huge army from point A to point B....need i go on? The ONLY reason this works is because whedon has a better sense of humour but in terms of structue it's the same generic plot.
