It’s about time we cut the crap. It seems that for the last couple of days people have been posting their top villains list. It’s time I voice my opinion on this. I am not going to do a top 10 list or a top 20 list. Sorry but I prefer to just focus on number one and not give bullshit statements on why I think this villain is number 14 or here is why this villain is number 8. That’s not me. Instead of focusing on listing villains, I’m going to focus on who I think is the number one villain of all time, ever, numero uno, the top dog, the list goes on. I am here to say why I think the Joker is the greatest villain ever and not Doctor Doom, or Magneto, or Green Goblin, or Lex Luthor, or the rest of them. Let’s get started.

Remember The Name

To be the best villain ever you have to do something that is memorable. It could be from the comics, the movies, the cartoons, video games, whatever. Something everyone knows and I’m not just talking comic fans. This has to be something that a random guy on the street would know. For example when I saw something people know I mean like how people know how Bane is the one who broke the Bat or how Doomsday is the only one to kill Superman (for the time being). Magneto, Doctor Doom, Darkseid, Lex, and plenty others have done great stuff but haven’t done anything we all know. That haven’t made as big of an impact. We all know Green Goblin killed Gwen. Now let’s look at the Joker. We all know what damage and chaos the Joker has done. People know that the Joker killed Robin (Jason Todd). People know the Joker shot and paralysis Barbara Gordon. In the animated series, we see the Joker basically destroy Tim Drake. We see the Joker take away the Tim’s innocence like how a child molester molests a child. I’m not saying Joker molested Tim I’m just making a comparison. In the movies, we see inBatman Joker was the one who shot and killed Thomas and Martha Wayne. In The Dark Knight, we see the Joker cause chaos and destruction. Also in The Dark Knight we see Joker turn Gotham’s most upstanding citizen in Harvey Dent from people against crime to committing it. In Arkham City we see the Joker kill Talia. The Joker has made an impact unlike anyone.

Some Men Aren't Looking For Anything Logical

Villains like Darkseid, Thanos, Lex, and Doom are all looking for the same thing: power and to destroy the world. Villain’s like that just get so boring after a while. I’m not saying the Joker doesn’t want power but that’s not at the top of his list. If we saw Doom take over a television station to make a statement, the whole world would panic because we already know what Doom will do. Doom would likely destroy. Now if the Joker took over a television station to make a statement, the world wouldn’t panic. You know why? Because we don’t know what the Joker wants. He could have a plan to destroy a city block or he could just go on for the fun of it. That in my mind is more deadly than anything Doom does. We know what Doom wants; we really have no idea what Joker wants. The Joker could go blow up a building for fun or to send a message but the thing is we wouldn’t know which one because of the nature of the Joker.

Is He Nuts? No! He's Insane

The thing you have to love about the Joker is he’s insanity. The Joker has no rules, no laws, no moral standpoint. People like Doom and Lex; we’ve seen them have rules. Joker wouldn’t stop fighting till the end. No one is safe when it comes to the Joker. Some of Joker’s crimes have no point while some do. The Joker doesn’t care if something is too dark, too evil, too disgusting, he will cross that line. The Joker doesn’t stop for anyone. You can’t cut a deal with the Joker. Also with the Joker, you see so many villains wanting to find out who the hero is. Who is behind that mask. The Joker doesn't care who Batman is. In Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On Serious Earth the Joker says something that is very true. When Batman is in Arkham, Black Mask demands Batman takes off his mask, I want to see your real face. Joker says in reply "You fool, that is he's real face." It shows how Joker is right. Heroes aren't the people behind the mask. Their real faces are shown when they put on that mask or cape, not when their masks are off. It stuff like what I said that make the Joker so deadly, so dangerous that you can’t top.

The Joker is truly evil incarnated. He has no sense of good, no sense of right. He does stuff that’s wrong because of the fact that it’s simple wrong. The Joker has proven throughout his history on he is the greatest villain ever. The Joker has done stuff that no other villain would want to do. He has done more than enough to prove why he is the greatest villain ever.

You make some very very good points. But, I feel Dr.Doom is the greatest comicbook villain. My article explains why in case you haven't seen it yet.

psssssssst: "exemplifies"

I have to ask: who is your favorite superhero? Or rather, who do you think is the best superhero? And I'm opening that question up to allow for anti-heroes and caped crusaders alike...

That last paragraph got me. Someone who is truly evil is someone who MEANS to do evil, not because that person doesn't have a moral compass.

I think Joker is one of the greatest villains in comics, but not the best. Truthfully, he gets to be too irritating a lot of the time - like a mixture of orange and pink against a grey urban backdrop. I think the best would be someone so palatable that s/he may not even be considered a villain, except for one glaring difference that makes you basically forget about his or her redeemable qualities.

The Joker is the chaos to Batman's order. Venom is the predator to Spider-man's quarry. Ozymandias is the sell-out to Rorschach's determination. Where Lex Luthor is corrupt, Superman is pure.

Those are foils, and why I don't cast any of them in the light of "the greatest villain ever".

I'm torn between the two, but i think the edge for me is slightly in Jokers corner.

@SotoJuiceMan

Your opinion holds little water if you think Ra's Al Ghul is a 'greater' villain than Joker and Dr Doom. Not that Ra's sucks, he's pretty awesome, but he's definitely not one of the 'greats'.

And there is a reason Joker is iconic. You can't just brush off that achievement like an idiot.

Doom was taken out by an army of squirrels. He sucks either way. Joker is much cooler.

Joker is just more entertaining to watch to me (That's what makes him a better villain)

Yes he is ruthless, violent, unpredictable, but most of what he does is to push Batman's button's an to rather peoples buttons for pure entertainment.

(Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker) is a great way film wise to show what a Monster he was by destroying Tim Drake.

The point is he didn't do it out of hate for Tim, He wanted break Robin, Twist his mind into complete insanity an torture (which he did) an then have not himself but one of Batman's children kill him off.

It was by mere literal last second luck Tim didn't.. Even then The Joker won by having Tim Drake commit Murder, cause the end of Robin an Batman an Wayne blaming himself for the destruction of Robin.
