DEBUNKED: Matthew Vaughn Directed FANTASTIC FOUR Reshoots; Josh Trank Responds

We all know just how troubled production on Fantastic Four has been, especially as Josh Trank's behaviour led to him reportedly being "fired" from the Star Wars spinoff he was attached to! Now, it's been revealed that Matthew Vaughn stepped in to direct those reshoots...

Matthew Vaughn saved the X-Men franchise, so could the Fantastic Four one be next? It certainly sounds that way, as Superhero News (definitely a reliable source) have heard that the Kingsman: The Secret Service helmer assumed the role of director for reshoots which took place in April. It was previously reported that Trank was present for those, but this obviously sheds some doubt on that. If Trank doesn't end up promoting the movie come junket time, that will more than likely tell us all we need to know about how limited his involvement in the Fantastic Four reboot has become.

Interestingly, the site also has news on why the movie is no longer being promoted for a 3D release. Apparently, Fox "axed the 3D release in favor of utilizing that budget for additional reshoots to help improve the story." The more we hear about Fantastic Four, the messier the whole thing sounds, but similar behind the scenes issues didn't stop World War Z from finding success in 2013. As of right now, we're just going to have to wait and see. Does Vaughn's possible involvement restore your faith in the movie? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts below!

UPDATE: Fantastic Four director Josh Trank has responded to this article on Twitter to make it clear that he is indeed the sole director of the reboot. As mentioned above, that matches up to what we previously heard about reshoots. Many thanks to Josh for taking the time to set things straight!

"The more we hear about Fantastic Four, the messier the whole thing sounds."

I wouldn't say that, considering all of the BTS rumors have involved highly talented persons being brought in to assist. I still have high expectations for this.

Geez, what the [frick] is going on with Trank these days? Acting out like this is a surefire way to NOT get many more jobs in Hollywood...it's already cost him Star Wars, and now maybe his exact influence over Fantastic Four is in doubt? He must be REALLY difficult to work with.

lordy lordy... All this means is that FOX is done with this train wreck. canceling 3D? I kinda want to laugh but it's just getting pitiful at this point.

They probably had some video of Vaughn doing something naughty and offered to delete the evidence for re shoots.

RIP all involved with this movie RIP

A good framework for this rumor would be the original "Poltergiest". Tobe Hooper is the credited director for the film but it's heavily implied by certain cast/crew members that Steven Spielberg was really directing a good portion of the movie.
The real truth of the matter is we DON'T KNOW if any of this is true. The only thing that matters to me personally is whether the movie is any good or not.

If the film is good I want the trilogy to finish up at Fox and head over to Marvel I really hope this film is good though

But yeah, Vaughn's involvement would be nothing but a good thing. It's funny though, I can totally see both sides to this - all this messiness could mean the film itself could potentially be a trainwreck...but on the other hand, getting so many highly-qualified people to work on this behind the scenes could save it. Who the [frick] knows.

Wouldn't be surprised if the rumors of them scrapping this movie(?)/starting from scratch last year were true. Quick thought, at least.

Ya'll make it out as if losing out on Star Wars is a big deal. Any bum off the street could direct one

Like I said on the other post, my guess is Vaughn's involvement has to do with teasing/setting up an X-Men crossover.

Seriously, how could they really fix, change, alter in four days?? That's an honest question. It just doesn't seem like much time to me. How long were the Age of Ultron re-shoots and they didn't even use all of them.

And also like I said on the other post, they MCU is known for having the director of the next film direct the credits scene that sets up/leads into their movie. Maybe Vaughn is directing an X-Men & Fantastic Four team-up??

Well at least vaughn is proven..Kingsman was pretty decent, but i dont understand all the bloated love it gets...

This is hillarios news...more PROOF about Trank that all the deniers have held on to for so long.. This is going to probably be Lexi ALexander kicked of Punisher 2 bad...

And no china release..there goes ALL THE MONEY...RoFL..

Just sell it back

@DrDoom

Revert back because the MCU has done so much better their villains?? hahaha. Seriously, we haven't even seen the movie, if you have and I'd like to see it too!

First off, Trank was allegedly fired from the Star Wars gig. Secondly I believe this rumor suggests that maybe Trank was not well enough to complete the reshoot and they got Vaughn to do the job. Or he was fired. Sounds speculative to me.

@m0th3r

That's a considerable difference. haha. I didn't think the reshoots were very long because the cast were all busy with other projects.

And this is somewhat related, Tim Blake Nelson about said reshoots:

CS: It’s my understanding that Josh Trank’s “Fantastic Four” was conceived as being smaller in scale in relation to other blockbusters of this ilk. Are the reshoots you’re doing next week a course correction to make it a bigger and hence more marketable movie?

Nelson: I have no idea, but they’re written by Simon Kinberg and they’re being directed by Josh, and these are two very strong-willed, opinionated people, so I can’t imagine there’s gonna be some wild departure from what they had in mind when they first set out to collaborate. I think it’s probably going to be an effort to underscore what the movie is all about. And Josh is the maker of “Chronicle”! This guy is not afraid to take his own perspective on what it is to be a young, eccentric person in a normalizing world and explore that, and that’s what “Fantastic Four” is all about, just like “Chronicle” was.

No question that happens.

I'm still waiting for those rumors surrounding him and his dogs trashing a hotel room to come out as being true. LOL

If there's any truth to this it's perfectly fine with me. I'd rather have a quality film at the end of the day to be honest.

After all, the budget for this film is only $122million.

Rumors, Rumors, Rumors

It's all disconcerting but until we get the full TRUE picture, I'm not buying any of it. Seeing the same ignorant people come onto this site to whine about it is kind of funny though. Every rumor that comes out about this movie is confirmed fact to them.
