Though it may seem hard to believe, we first heard about Marvel Studios' plans to reboot the Fantastic Four back in 2020, and we are still waiting on an official cast announcement.
Reliable sources have claimed that at least one or two of the main roles are locked in, and multiple rumors relating to the others have been doing the rounds for months. However, we're now hearing that the studio has yet to secure a single actor.
By all accounts, Adam Driver was all set to sign on to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, but according to Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, he is no longer in the running. Sneider speculates that Driver may have "priced himself out" of the gig by asking for too much money.
Margot Robbie - who seemingly was in the running for Sue Storm/Invisible Woman - is also said to have passed, and, as of right now, Daveed Diggs is believed to be the only actor still in contention for the role of Ben Grimm/The Thing.
Perhaps inevitably, this has all led to even more rumors, with names such as Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) and even Matt Smith (Morbius) being tossed around for Richards (we wouldn't put much stock in either of those picks).
Matt Shakman will direct from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Plot details are still a mystery, but Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
