The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

I wanted Azog to have practical effects rather than cgi.

Peter Jackson fell into the same delusion trap that George Lucas did - thinking that CGI can replace practical effects, prosthetics make-up and real extras.

Original Trilogy Orcs > Prequel trilogy orcs.

2/10: Orc to have known better.

You're all correct. The orcs in the LotR trilogy had real personality - they were memorable. The Hobbit orcs just look like video game targets - totally forgettable.

I like the Hobbit films as pure spectacle, and I really like Martin Freeman as Bilbo, but these movies don't have the heart and soul of the original trilogy.

CGI - ruining movie franchises since 1999.

I don't understand the gripes. One thing I never heard people gripe about with LOTR is the inconsistency with Hobbit size when compared to elves, men and orcs. When Merry and Pippin were being taken to Isengard, you could clearly see that they were riding the backs of two fake orcs which I never heard any gripes about.

I still enjoy the movies, even if they differ from the books. I still like azog, even though Bolg is the one in charge in the books

Oh God, this [frick]er is still alive? One of the most useless, inept, incompetent villains ever...until they introduced their version of Smaug, that is.

Kind of silly. The guys 3 miles back in the last row would be like ..
"is that him?"
"wtf is going on up there"
"I can't see anything!"
"Ugh .. are we charging yet?"
"Dude shut up i think he's ... no .. nevermind I can't see anything"

It would be like a middle earth tailgate party back there.

@BlackHulk The difference is, the Lord of the Rings movies had so much other stuff going for it, so it was easier to overlook any flaws. Who cares about the inconsistency of the hobbits vs the orcs when you have such great drama going on, like Aragorn's hunt to find the Uruk-hai and rescue Merry and Pippin? Or Saruman's army and the impending battle at Helm's Deep?

In The Hobbit trilogy, the flaws are so much more glaring because there's not much high-quality stuff there to distract us with and hold our attention...so what choice do we have but to notice the flaws and call them out on it?

I think makes these Orcs so forgettable compared to the ones from LOTR is the fact that they don't speak English. At least with LOTR, some of the best quotes came from the Orcs such as "What do you smell?" "Manflesh!"

Not a reader of The Hobbit or LOTR.
Just based on movies I feel the LOTR to be long winded & boring in too many parts.
Like the Dwarves better than Hobbits so glad there is only one in The Hobbit films & he's waaaay cooler than the annoying Frodo & Company.
Overall,I prefer these films to LOTR.

@ SauronsBANE. Story wise, LOTR is far more in depth with drama and sub plots compared to the Hobbit. The Hobbit is a very simple story and could have been made in one movie, but with Peter Jackson at the helm, everyone knew that he would stretch it out and add certain things to the plots. With that being said, these movies are pretty massive, and far from absent of any flaws or inconsistencies. That's the tradeoff that Peter Jackson tends to give when making a movie that is visually stunning. I guess my point is for every flaw you could find with the Hobbit, 3 could be found with LOTR.

@ Sameoldthing

What I liked about the Hobbit films is that it gave us insight on the Dwarves as well as what Northern Middle Earth was like prior to the events of LOTR.

Manu Bennett has been great as Azog, I just wish his role would have been Bolg instead (since he is the main Orc antagonist in the book). Who knows maybe Bolg has a bigger role in movie 3.
