Bollocks.

That's my contribution.

Just bollocks.

When people mention The Crow, as a movie, in 50 years time, which one do you think they will be referring to?

And on that note, when they mention Ben-Hur as a movie, in 50 years time, they will be talking about the classic Ben-Hur, not the Jack Huston starring remake.
Lesser movies.
And on that note, what a year of lesser movies 2015 is going to be. I'd call this year a lull, but we actually have two really big movies coming out (Avengers and Star Wars), they're just not coming out in the summer. The summer is full of lesser movies. A Terminator film that will in no way be a patch on James Cameron's original (or it's sequel). A Jurassic Park film that will in no way be a patch on the original Steven Speilberg classic. An Ant-Man film that will be a lesser version of what could have been Edgar Wright's masterpiece. All churned out by a bunch of happy little hacks. And then there's that fvcking Fantastic Four.

it will be hard to come even closer to the original Crow. Still i wish everyone attached to this project luck. People don't seem to understand that the Crow movie distance itself from Crow comic book. So as far the first adaptation goes - it wasn't perfect.

Neverless it's stand on it's own.

anyway ... we gonna see Skull Cowboy this time around. I guess. He was cut from the first film.

what bothers me : why do they wanna tell Eric Draven story again. Is it because the execs thought that telling the other story won't sell the movie ? Or do they wanna make proper adaptation of the comic book novel.

It can't get worst than that ... i tell you that

the series died with that movie. nothing can hurt this franchise anymore.

As for Brandon Lee ... it's a really shame what happened to him. It was his breakthrough role, no doubt about it. I guess in previous movies he made he didn't have a time to shine. Here he was just chewing the scenery.

by the way ... Trivia

Crow 3 and 4 distance itself from Eric Draven story. The sequel (City of angels) brought back Sara from the first movie.

And she had aged as if the first film had been set in the eighties, which was quite like the comic. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did the same thing by having Raph see Critters at the cinema.
Literally the only thing that this film could do to be at all relevant is by being a perfect adaptation of the comic. And even then it will not supersede either the comic or the original. The original was the ultimate goth movie taking a perfect eighties goth comic and kicking the '90s goth scene into high gear.

Maybe this time the Crow will speak. And maybe they'll get the same voice actor to do Matthew the raven in Sandman. Maybe it'll be Sam Riley. Maybe not. Probably not, really.
My favourite scene from comics was always the part where Eric sees the horse, whilst riding the train. That didn't make it to the first film.
But really, is it even possible to capture the artistry of the comic, in a film? I mean, you'd have to get someone like Terance Malick for a lot of the segments.

trivia 2:

Rob Zombie wrote a script for Crow movie.

The Crow 2037

the premise:

October 31, 2010. A young boy and his mother are murdered by a dark priest of the Fallen One...and exactly one year later the Crow returns the spirit of the slain child back to Earth to claim vengence. But unsure of himself, the boy forgets about his horrors. Twenty-seven years later, the boy is now a bounty hunter and finally sets foot on the road to reap the Crow's revenge

trivia 3: there was gonna be a rap inspired Crow movie too. DMX was involved.

LAZARUS - A Tale of the CROW

premise: Lazarus, the world's most popular rap-artist decides to leave the world of gangsta rap and settle down with his girlfriend, Mary. Unfortunately, his record-label, Brimstone (owned by Lazarus' friend, Stone), is dead-set against the idea. Following Lazarus' final performance, he, Mary, and Stone are all killed in a drive-by supposedly perpetrated by their rival, Papa Smurf. The power of the Crow resurrects Lazarus so he can get revenge upon hsi killers. Unfortunately, Stone is back from the dead as well, and he's setting himself up as a nemesis to Lazarus.

The Rob Zombie one sounds pretty good.
Not so fond of the Lazarus one. It's just an attempt at modernisation by updating the culture to Gangsta Rap. There was a similar rumor a couple of years back, which had a dubstep Crow to be played by Skrillex.
This is just one of the reasons why this movie can not live up to the original. The original was of it's time. It was associated with goth culture for a reason. It's a real gothic concept. It doesn't really suit Gangsta rap or whathaveyou. The comic came at the end of the '80s goth movement and the film was balls deep in the '90s goth movement. This made for a great album, too, with '90s legends like NiN and RotM covering songs by '80s legends like Joy Division and The Cure.
It was zeitgeist. It was perfectly of it's time. Lightning in a bottle. Alex Proyas. Brandon Lee. You can't recreate all of that. You can't manufacture it. You would have to recreate the culture of the time. Which is nigh on impossible. That time is over. It's done. It's a different world.
Even if this film is period '80s/'90s and perfectly adapts the comic, it will only ever be a good compliment to the original.
Proyas and Brandon Lee have spray painted their gritty, grimy, gothy cat-shit all over this. It's sacred turf. This movie doesn't have a chance.

@DukeAcureds

i think you are right. Proyas "Crow" movie was relased about the same time Goth culture started to become popular. In my country is was about 3 to 4 years (i guess) after the movie premiered. Many really like the movie. But it was the soundtrack that in my country have some sort of cult classic. Anyway - you can't recreate that period anymore. The will have to focus on something else rather than the atmosphere. Modern take ?

Honestly....

I don't think The Crow needs a reboot.

The Crow #1 was awesome and it should have ended there

The original movie was soooooooooo different from the comic story.. I love both. The Crow is one of the few films I own. If they are going to make another movie, I hope they try and stay as true to the comic books as they can. It could feel like a different film from the first, depending on how they do it. I would reckon that most of the movie-going audience not currently in their 30's and early 40's has not seen the original movie, and even if they did, maybe only once a long time ago. So this could be successful if they keep it close to the comic book and make it well.

Rewatched the original a few days ago and the premise and style of it just completely suited the 90's, I don't think it would work as well these days.

Jack Huston is a great choice, just can't get too excited for this remake on a flawless original.

I actually ended up loving the Carrie remake so hopefully I'll be surprised.

I have all of the original story arc comic books, and love the 1994 movie. So any reboot was not something I was excited to read about.

But this may be what this reboot needed, as Jack Huston is a fantastic actor that really delivered on 'Boardwalk Empire'. I can see him making this work.
