Bruce Timm Reveals New Details About The Green Lantern Animated Series!

Thanks to MTV Splash Page for the following quotes. Follow the link at the bottom of this article for more from the series' producer.

On Whether The Animated Series Will Have Any Links To The Live Action Movie:

"The animated series doesn't follow the direct continuity of the live-action movie or 'First Flight' or anything that we've done before, but it doesn't contradict them either. They're all pretty consistent in terms of Hal Jordan being the Green Lantern and so forth, so hopefully by the time our show comes on, people will have seen the 'Green Lantern' movie — several times, hopefully — and they'll know the backstory, so we can go off from there."

On Whether Or Not The Series Will Address Hal Jordan's Origins:

"We've already done the origin story in 'First Flight,' and I'm sure we'll be re-releasing that to take advantage of all the 'Green Lantern' publicity next year. The movie itself is going to be his origin story, so people will know his origin story and we don't have to waste time with it yet again."

On Whether Or Not We'll See An Adaptation Of The Popular "Blackest Night" Comic Book Event:

"We don't get into the whole Black Lantern thing. Hopefully the show is a big hit and will go on for six or seven years, and we'll do the Black Lanterns somewhere down the line, but for now we don't have any plans to go down that route."

On Whether We'll See Any Other DC Heroes Cameo On The Show

"It's a science-fiction show, so this means Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, they're not showing up. It's all about the Green Lantern Corps."

On The "Green Lantern: Emerald Knights" Animated Movie:

""This one focuses directly on the other members of the Green Lantern Corps. It's similar in format to the "Batman: Gotham Knight" movie we did a couple of years ago, with six individual stories all tied up in an overall arc. 'Emerald Knights' is similar in that each of the individual stories focuses on one of the other Green Lanterns."

Thanks deadpool! The Sinestro Corps and Larfleeze are definitely a must. I normally don't bother with animated series' (only watched the first half of the Avengers cartoon pilot before I gave up on it, lol) but I might just stick with this one.

I agree that it will probably be better than the live-action movie. DCAU is consistently the best place to go for CB apaptations!

Looking forward to both though. :)

They haven't even thought of doing Blackest Night yet, which makes me feel like this will just be another one of those hype-cash cartoon series that they pump out without much thought or creativity or originality in the story line. Expect to see the same shit you've seen in any previous iteration of the Green Lantern during the first three episodes, then a bunch of episodes designed to sell more action figures.

The [frick]ed up part: if they put more thought into these, made them more involved and creatively demanding from the get-go, ambitiously including content from more recent comics instead of the tired stuff from the 70s, they wouldn't have trouble staying on the air...

Oh wait, Wolverine and The X-Men did that and got pulled after 1.5 seasons.

I guess you can't win with animated adaptations.

I'm really glad to hear emerald Knights will be six individual stories of different GL's. Hopefully that will help non GL fans really see the potential that The Corps has.

i can hardly wait! I look forward to the live action movie, animated show and movie, it would be nice Kevin Conroys Batman would appear since almost 20 years ago it Batman the Animated series aired but I understand why that wont go that route but I look 4ward to all DC's animated and live actions films, looks like things are coming together because these things take time, God bless U all DC & DC fans!

I thought the origin of Hal Jordan was rushed in First Flight. However the Martin Campbell movie seems to address that quite well so I think it's all good. But the issue with First Flight was that it seemed as though it was more about Sinestro's fall than Hal's origin. Still, I'm going to pop it in my ps3 soon and give it another go, even with its flaws it's still a good watch!
So yeah, I'm looking forward to this series!!
Hal Jordan, you have been chosen!

Amazing! This def sounds like it'll be a hit and im not sure what station it'll be on but cartoon network would grab kids and adults alike namely bc of the whole adult swim crowd and what not.......as im very unsure about how the movie will turn out but if its giving a paved road for this show to transform into something beautiful...as well as givin us blackest night in motion that would be epic...i could also see blackest night being part of a huge series of movies similar to the way they did star wars, by the way i always thought GL should be told like the star wars epdisode 123 and then years later 456 but in order 123 then 456 unlike george lucas weird [frick]ed up way of giving the prequel movies better cgi and tech it kind of killed it for me the only movie of the first three star wars was revenge of the sith just bc it had some cool scenes and gave the backstory of 456m in all honesty revenge of the sith should have been the only prequel and they shoulve spent all the money on that and that would have been EPIC and possible two other films of darth during his begining and prime years. anyways cant wait to see this cartoon show! lol sorry for the rant

I'll probably enjoy this as much as First Flight, which IS my very FAVORITE animated film from DC's entire library (that i've seen so far). But even saying that, i don't give this show more than 2 seasons... well maybe three at the most if they're lucky. Cause what makes a show stay on the air is not necessarily what the comic book fans think of it but rather what the entire viewing public thinks of it. First Flight didn't do so well on it's release and still struggles even after all the press of a Green Lantern live action film starring Ryan Reynolds no less. Sure, the movie will help sell re-released copies but i hardly think it will boost it's sales tenfold. The show in itself could be the best thing since sliced bread in terms of adaptations, but i still don't see what that show could have which other brilliant yet cancelled shows didn't. Hell, "The Batman" was my ALL TIME favorite tv show(along side She-Ra and Thundercats) and it won several Emmys, but not even it's brilliant set-up to the Justice League could make it stay on the air passed it's fifth season. Why would Green Lantern last any longer or even yet AS long? As unlimited as the Lantern Corps is, Green Lantern's concept is still very limited. Well, not more limited than any other hero, really. But i see it's concept as a "been there, done that" type of concept. All it has is it's various original details which IMO still doesn't make it's global concept that much "worthy". I see this series as being very similar to Silver Surfer's a while back, which i was ecstatic to watch but didn't do too well. So unfortunately, i just can't see GL succeed where other concepts just as brilliant, if not more so, have not. But that's just me and i'd be delighted to eat my words :)

Personaly, i think a Hellboy animated series would sell better and i also think that Young Justice will be THE series to beat! Next to Avengers, Young Justice and Ultimate Spider-man, i just don't see Green Lantern lasting more than three seasons at the very most.
