Green Lantern May Be Hated By Most Critics, But Still Leaves A Mark On The Universe!

Although Green Lantern is having something of a tough time with film critics, NASA have brought attention to a green ringed shape nebula which they describe as, "A Green Ring Fit for a Superhero"...

This glowing emerald nebula seen by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope is reminiscent of the glowing ring wielded by the superhero Green Lantern. In the comic books, the diminutive Guardians of the Planet "Oa" forged his power ring, but astronomers believe rings like this are actually sculpted by the powerful light of giant "O" stars, the most massive type of star known to exist.

Named RCW 120, this region of hot gas and glowing dust can be found in the murky clouds encircled by the tail of the constellation Scorpius. The ring of dust actually is glowing in infrared colors that our eyes cannot see, but show up brightly when viewed by Spitzer's infrared detectors. At the center of this ring are a couple of giant stars whose intense ultraviolet light has carved out the bubble, though they blend in with other stars when viewed in infrared.

This bubble is far from unique. Just as the Guardians of Oa have selected many beings to serve as Green Lanterns and patrol different sectors of space, Spitzer has found that such bubbles are common and an can be found around O stars throughout our Milky Way galaxy. The small objects at the lower right area of the image may themselves be similar regions seen at much greater distances across the galaxy.

With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this month!

critics who hate green lantern has issue with superhero comic book movies in general and the special effects. i agree the special effect should of been done by ILM or Weta Digital really WB/DC its not like they cant afford to have them.

remember even WB Clash of The Titans was awful but it still earned for a sequel.

It's actually not green. The vibrant colors seen in photographs of the universe are purposely put there by computers to show scientists the different types of radiation present in the nebula. Kind of like how an infrared image shows different colors to represent heat signatures. The green in that photograph isn't actually green to the naked eye.

Read Roger Eberts review. It sounded like he liked it to be honest. The review is labeled rotten on the tomato meter cuz the webdite doesnt look over the review with much clarity. He liked it better than the tim burton batmans. And he staes his hate for 3D and is interested in seeing how other top critics respond to it.

look at shit, Roger Enbert

He had the crazy [frick]ing thought to compare the 2, you serious....

Parallax, it must be said, is a well-imagined malevolence. Although he manifests a diabolical face, he seems otherwise to consist mostly of roiling tendrils of foul, polluted matter. In one scene while the foreground is filled with terrified humans who are fleeing toward the camera, behind them Parallax causes skyscrapers to tumble. Was it less than 10 years ago that we wondered if movies could ever use such images again after 9/11?

he finished off with

The bottom line: This is a comic-book movie. Fans of the Green Lantern (in his intergalactic story mode and not his earthbound TV series) will no doubt enjoy its visualizations and its references to details of the back story that escaped me. There's a whole lot going on. We don't really expect subtle acting or nuanced dialogue. We appreciate an effective villain. We demand one chaste kiss between hero and heroine, but no funny stuff. We enjoy spectacular visuals like the Green elders, who are immortal and apparently spend eternity balancing on top of towering pillars. "Green Lantern" delivers all of those things, and for what it's worth, I liked it more than "Thor."

Perhaps there was a reason for that. The movie, as you know, was filmed in 3-D. But a screening was made available in 2-D, and I chose to attend the 2-D screening. The colors were bright, the images were crisp and clear, the impact was undeniable, the greens were ... real green. I didn't see the 3-D version, so can't compare the two. I will be looking forward with interest to how other film critics describe it.

the dude from the NY Daily News had the balls to say it's more like Daredevil than Dk Knight. I haven't seen but shit I know it's no where close to Daredevil. That was brutal.

HAHA awesome.. That's totally OA if it weren't in the center of the universe.

Here is the spill.com audio review if anyone wants to listen..

The Spill crew are comic fans so their review is worth listening to.

They hate it cause Ryan Reynolds is a bland 'movie star' not actor. He's been the same since Van Wilder with slight variations.

I am tired of critics comparing every superhero movie to the dark knight. The Green Lantern requires computer animation he's in space for god sake. as long as the movie goes by the comics I'll be happy.
HelaGood
HelaGood - 6/16/2011, 2:20 PM
wait until next week...
Reynolds will pull a Josh Brolin and come forward to say how awful it was working on the film...and say that he’s clearly unimpressed with the end result, which he admits he thinks “got so derailed at a certain point,"...and say it's for audiences who want to see something a bit ridiculous and fun.

mark my words...

@InFamouslyCool - enough with the nolan worship already! dammit!

@HelaGood - I was thinking that too, what if everybody (besides critics) thinks the movie isn't good at all? What would be his speech?

Probably something like this, Sam Raimi style.

I always go and see for myself but the CGI was always going to be a hit or miss with audience goers and while fan boy/girls may love it what is the general movie going audience going to think?
