The teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released during CCXP Brazil this past Thursday, giving us our first look at the returning Gamora Variant who was introduced in Avengers: Endgame in action.
Zoe Saldaña wasn't required to keep her role in James Gunn's threequel under wraps (she even shared behind-the-scenes photos to Instagram during production), but Marvel Studios' strictly-enforced secrecy policy does often make it difficult for actors to discuss upcoming projects, and it sounds like the Star Trek actress may have become a little frustrated with the process.
During her appearance on the latest episode of Hot Ones, Saldaña was asked about the studio's intense security levels, and acknowledged that there are "advantages and disadvantages" to working under those circumstances.
"When you work for Marvel, it feels like a cult, everybody’s like, 'What’s going on? I’m dressed in green after four hours in makeup, we must be shooting something, what is it?' [Laughs] That has advantages and disadvantages, the advantages are you savor the surprise for the end, and you don’t ruin it and the audience is able to have an amazing adventure when they go to the movies to watch it. The disadvantage is mainly for the actor, because you don’t know what you’re getting, you don’t know where you’re going, you don’t know what you’re saying, you don’t know what’s going to happen, and that can be a little nerve-wracking."
Though some do seek out spoilers before seeing a movie, the majority of people wouldn't want the plot of a film ruined before sitting down to watch it, so Marvel Studios' going to such lengths to keep its secrets for as long as possible is certainly understandable - even if it does impose some limitations on the actors involved.
From what we understand, Gamora will have a very important part to play in GOTG Vol. 3, and her relationship with both Peter Quill and Nebula is expected to be a main focus.
In Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
James Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova.
Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
