GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Reactions From U.S. Critics Promise Emotional, If Somewhat Uneven, Conclusion

A new wave of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reactions have found their way online following last night's Hollywood premiere, but are they as glowing as those that came out of Avengers Campus a few days ago?

Filed Under: Vol. 3

Earlier this week, we got the first reactions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following a screening in Disneyland Paris' Avengers Campus.

The Hollywood premiere took place in Los Angeles yesterday evening, of course, and that means U.S. critics are now weighing in with their thoughts on James Gunn's final MCU movie. As always, it's best to take these with a pinch of salt before the review embargo lifts but there are enough glowing verdicts here to make us think this threequel really is as good as Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home

Marvel Studios could do with a win after Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, though it's worth noting that many critics have pointed out the fact this movie feels a little too busy and uneven at times. As criticisms go, that doesn't seem overly concerning.

We'll see, but all signs point to this being a return to form for the MCU. It's just a shame (if you're a Marvel fan, at least) that Gunn is now leaving the franchise behind to take charge of DC Studios and helm Superman: Legacy

Check out the reactions, and a new critics TV spot, for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 below.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.

Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

Why do these people see collaboration as nepotism? It's not as if those he took in are not good with their craft. Who wouldnt want to work with friends and family?

MCUs savior (for now) will be the one killing them off later (as DC head)

@vectorsigma - Seriously. And at least 95% of the audience has no clue these people are Gunn's family or friends. If they are distracting because they are bad, then it is an issue. If they are distracting her because she is too invested in the outside workings of the industry and she doesn't like the idea of him hiring his family or friends for parts, that is HER problem.

@vectorsigma - Nah! Giving Sean Gunn's character same kinda importance as Yondu is bullshit! He wasn't even that likable in the first two movies.

@Shivermetimbers - completely agree.

@vectorsigma - When it comes to his wife, it is...and now ONLY his family are friends are being carried over to the DCU? :/

@Shivermetimbers - agreed, it would be nice if she simply reviewed a movie and not made comments on personnal relationships of people outside that movie... her reports are like watching The View.

@KanchaCheena - I hear what you are saying but her criticism doesn't read as "James gave his subpar brother too much screen time" but rather as "seeing Gunn's friends and family in the movie take me out of the movie" ... the former can be a legit issue, as it would be for any subpar actor getting too much screen time. The latter is stupid. It only bothers her because she knows who they are.

@ptick - She especially mention Sean Gunn though. She said Sean was out of control.

@SimplyAz - I don’t know if you know, and it hasn’t been shared here, but Smith has been out of the picture for the last few months and he finally spoke on what went down publicly. He had a pretty big mental break that led to a disassociation of reality, and forcing him to confront past and personal traumas he’s never spoke on.

I get the joke and all but, there’s definitely reasons why his personality is what it is.

@DTor91 -

I really like Smith and he's always comes across as a good fun guy

Thanks for letting me know, I hadn't seen it.👍🏽

Hopefully he gets the help he needs

Even all the tweets with negative parts for all reasons given still make this sound like an OK to Good movie which is something needed with a lackluster Phase 4 & Phase 5 opening.

The tweet saying not as good as Vol 1 but better than Vol 2 I'll take because I enjoyed Vol 1 but Vol 2 was a bit off with me so as long as it's better than that, small win.

@TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan - pretty much my exact thoughts. The trailers haven't wowed me in anyway shape or form but i will see it reagrdless and am hoping to be pleasantly surprised

@MotherGooseUPus - I thought the same about the trailers. Hopefully they are just hiding some of the best stuff. Looking forward to this one either way, which I havent been able to say about some other recent projects.

@Shivermetimbers - i hope so cuz honestly the Antman trailers were wayyyy better, and, well i personally liked the movie, it wasn't exactly a box office hit and didnt start off Phase V with a bang they were looking for

Not expecting much with this movie. The first one was ok but the second one sucked. The only thing about the second one I did like was the music and Kurt Russell. Ego as a character was just horrible.

@Reginator - if you thought the first one was ok, then then why bother commenting? What were you expecting? Message board need-nazis are the worst.

@Mother[frick]erJon - If your wife was as hot as his, you might. Maybe shes the throat goat too and Gunn cant stand to start the day without a BJ. Who knows?
