James Gunn has already made it clear that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his final film in the franchise (and most likely the Marvel Cinematic Universe, full stop), but with the movie being so well-received by fans and performing better than expected at the box office, could be possibly change his mind?
Maybe... but probably not!
While responding to a fan on Twitter, Gunn stated that there's "no real chance" of a fourth GOTG movie, and even if Marvel Studios did decide to move forward with another adventure without him at the helm, it would not be "Vol. 4."
Of course, Gunn is going to have his hands full as DC Studios co-CEO, but Vol. 3's mid-credits scene did introduce a new crew of A-holes, so we can't imagine Kevin Feige completely closing the door on the prospect of more GOTG movies.
In the same thread, Gunn was asked how old the DCU's new Batman in The Brave and The Bold will be, and responded that he has no idea because nobody has been cast yet.
We had assumed that a younger Dark Knight would be introduced along with the younger Superman, but it sounds like Gunn is open to all possibilities.
"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."
Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now in theaters.
