It was announced back in 2019 that Kevin Smith was developing a new animated series for Netflix titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and while we're still waiting on that first trailer, the Clerks director (via EW) has now unveiled the first official promo stills.
The images spotlight impressively redesigned (by Castlevania's Powerhouse Animation) takes on several fan-favorite characters such as He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Orko, Beast Man, Evil-Lyn, and more.
"We get to see them engage not just in clashing swords, but in far deeper conversations than we've ever seen them before," says Smith. "It's not just simply like these two dudes [He-Man and Skeletor] have been trying to beat each other up for decades. We get to tell stories of abuse. We get to kind of tell stories of isolation, grief. We use these characters as long as they've been around — and most people consider them toys or action figures — to tell insanely human stories set in a very inhuman world."
Revelation will serve as a sequel to the classic '80s animated series, and has assembled quite a voice cast to continue the story, with Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, Kevin Conroy as Mer-Man, and original Skeletor voice actor Alan Oppenheimer taking on role of Moss Man.
