Deadline reports that director John M. Chu has entered talks to direct a live action adaptation of Masters Of The Universe for Sony Pictures and Escape Artists. He is currently hard at work on the 3D conversion of his latest picture, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. That film was originally set to be released last month before being pushed back to March 29th, 2013. The site reports that it will revolve around, "He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world that has been ravaged by the sinister Skeletor." Alex Litvak (The Three Musketeers) and Mike Finch (Exclusively Yours penned the script under the title Grayskull, although Mattel - the toy company who own the brand that the film will be based on - are now said to be revising it.

Studios have been developing movies from 80's cartoons for some time: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and now Masters of the Universe. Sony is in talks with John Chu to direct because of his work on G.I. Joe Retaliation not the Step-Up movies. He-Man is similar to G.I. Joe if you include movies, cartoons, action figures, and comic books so Masters of the Universe is just another franchise in need for a reboot which I am 100% looking forward to it in the near future.

He-Man is a corny character and concept, period. But if people will pay to see it then... whatever.

I think they'd be better off with ThunderCats or SilverHawks.
