HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN Finds Its Lead In DEADPOOL 2 Actor Jack Kesy

Just weeks after we first learned of plans for a Hellboy reboot, it's been confirmed that Deadpool 2 star Jack Kesy has landed the lead role in Crank director Brian Taylor's take on The Crooked Man...

Deadline (via FearHQ.com) reports that Hellboy: The Crooked Man has tapped actor Jack Kesy to play the title character in Millennium Media's upcoming reboot.

While we wouldn't go so far as to say he's a relative unknown, the actor has mostly played supporting roles in big movies, such as Black Tom in Deadpool 2. Despite that character being a key part of Wade Wilson's story on the page, he was just another criminal in the 2018 sequel whose story ended with a bullet to the head from Cable!

Still, this is an exciting development for the actor's career after solid turns in the likes of 12 Strong, Baywatch, and The Strain

"Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles," says co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger, of the casting. "His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost."

Brian Taylor (CrankGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) will direct what's being described as a movie that expands Hellboy’s world through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series. Hellboy's creator, Mike Mignola, meanwhile, has penned the screenplay alongside his Dark Horse Comics collaborator Chris Golden, so it's a project that definitely has potential.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man follows Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.

On the page, The Crooked Man was an eighteenth-century miser and war profiteer named Jeremiah Witkins who was hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region's resident Devil.

You may also remember Kesy from his work in Dark Web: Cicadia 3301 and Without Remorse, and it's fair to say this could be a star-making project for the actor. At 36, he's not as young as previous comments from Taylor suggested this new take on Hellboy might be, but is 11 years David Harbour's junior and considerably younger than 72-year-old Ron Perlman.

More Hellboy: The Crooked Man casting is thought to be imminent so keep checking FearHQ.com for the latest updates.

got to wonder why they keep trying with this series

I love the Ron Perlman films, but those movies were not successfulat the box office, thats why they switched studios for the second movie and why they had a hard time making a 3rd movie

the reboot was a failure in every possible way

@dracula - I've never looked up the production costs vs. the profit, but I imagine they must be making at least a bit of profit to keep going. They really bank on that brand loyalty these days to guarantee some cash.

@RedFury - well the first movie cost 60 million and made 99 million
Second movie cost 85 million and made 168 million

The reboot cost 50 million and made 55 million

Unless tie in material is making bank, where is the money in trying again

@dracula - lol well there goes my theory! They must have a really good or stupid financier.

@dracula - it's like it'd be in their best interest to just let Perlman get a third or something

No interest, almost walked out of the reboot.

But, the Black Tom joke from Deadpool 2 was hilarious to me so there’s that

@DannRamm113 - that joke was too good man, part of why I like the sequel more. I hope part three continues to trend. Of course, it has wolverine and not just a picture of him, and not just baraka, actual factual, apparitions stepped right out of the page to kill the creators. Well, maybe not that but something like that.

This movie will suck if the guy who directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be directing.

@tb86 - say what you will about that film, but the ghost rider scenes were directed really well. I like how demonic and creepy they made him.

Definitely has the jawline to play a superhero.
