Sony Wants Billy Murray To Appear In All-Female GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot

Even though director Paul Feig is completely rebooting the Ghostsbusters franchise to make room for his female-led version, Variety reports Sony is very interested in including Bill Murray ("Zombieland").

Apparently Sony is very interested in bringing Bill Murray ("Scrooged") back for Paul Feig's female-led Ghostbusters reboot. Ramin Setoodeh from Variety reports: "According to insiders, the studio would jump at the chance to sign (Bill) Murray for either a cameo or supporting role."

If Murray does accept a role in the film it would be a bit of surprise as he was such a wrench in past plans for a Ghostbusters 3, he passed on numerous scripts. Though, he was the first former cast member to publicly praise an all-female approach. He even provided his own fan-cast which included: "Melissa McCarthy ("The Heat"), Kristen Wiig ("Bridesmaids"), Linda Cardellini ("Scooby-Doo") and Emma Stone ("The Amazing Spider-Man"). Below, you can watch a recent MTV interview in which Emma was asked about Bill's recommendation.

By the way, this Bill Murray news shouldn't come as much of surprise since Paul Feig told Entertainment Weekly last week he was open to having former Ghostbusters cast members back for his reboot. I think it 's safe to assume Ernie Hudson ("The Crow") shouldn't expect a phone call.

No kidding. Sony's only into the money making business, not the good movie making business.

They should get all the original Ghostbusters to recruit and train the new female Ghostbusters. That would make more sense to me.

How bout we mix genders? That way it'll appeal to a broader audience. I don't want Bridesmaids 2 in the form of a Ghostbusters film.

I blame Murray for the fact that we are getting this complete reboot instead of GB3. Had he just signed onto the film, I guarantee it would have been made. So what is he going to be in this just to piss everyone off?

I could actually see Bill Murray doing this.

The thing is though, he can't reprise his role as Peter Venkman... That was already stated.

He would have to play an entirely different character, which is disappointing.

@Lozzy Hahaha, pretty much. I'm looking at the past couple years and they've just been shitting their pants. Every year they throw out a money maker like Skyfall and the Spider-Mans, but they're pretty obviously quantity over quality.

This movie will be the nail in the coffin for Sony Pictures. Then Disney will buy Spider-Man.

Ernie Hudson expressed skepticism about a ghostbusters movie that didnt include any originals

He wasn't asked "would you team up with women?"

And - its very gracious of bill to give a nod to this but don't put the cart in front of the horse

If they don't bring back Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, Weaver and Moranis, I ain't seeing this this (switch the "t" with the "s").

Not the foremost authority on this but...
Bill is pretty selective about what he does - but then again, this is his world and we all just live in it. Would he do it for a huge pay day? I don't know... he, Ramis, Reitman, Aykroyd and Sony own the rights to the movie - this doesn't seem like it should be a surprise news story (your partner who also owns rights to something you own rights to asks you to do something towards that something). Not far-fetched in the least.

Still, my GB3 logic so far: Hudson seemed off about the reboot, Reitman is out, RIP Ramis, good look getting Rick Moranis back into acting, and Murray hasn't been happy with many of the scripts and ideas thrown his way (which if I am not mistaken, is one of the main reasons why he wasn't interested in GB3). Sony needs to do something because they understand that the majority their target audience are hesitant to get on board with anything that robs them of nostalgia or devalues their childhood (this is a legitimate concern they I am sure they have recognized from social media).

This is one reason why I praise Zemeckis and Gale every chance I get in the reboot debate. They were the only ones who had the foresight to have future creative control over their films, love what they did, and are proud of what BTTF means to our culture. They won't let anything remotely related to a reboot or sequel happen on their watch and should be praised for this :D

Sony needs something that is going to be over the top funny, appeal with the same level of humor as the originals, and have some longevity... so, my guess for the cast is Wiig, Stone, McCarthy, and Mya Rudolph. I see Bill Hader being involved, with Rogen, Hill, and Franco to an extent. I see Aykroyd and Potts in supporting roles with Weaver and Hudson, and I think Murray shows up if there is a trade off for something that benefits his interests as an artist later on. I still can't put my finger on a villian - my gut says August to Halloween slated release with a CGI Samhain as the main baddy - logic for August/September/October release date would make sense with this.

Give us a direct sequel, a continuation of the original two with murrays now grownuo son Oscar, played by Ryan Reynolds, maybe Emma stone as the new female recruit, Jon Hamm in the egon like role, and Anthony mackie, have stone maybe play the daughter of egon to honor his memory
