Despite John Carter's disappointing performance at the Box Office, the video below shows us how much effort it took to bring the world of Barsoom to life. Courtesy of Patrick Giusiano, who worked on the movie with Double Negative VFX team (which has previously provided the visual effects for movies such as Captain America: The First Avenger, Sherlock Holmes, The Dark Knight, Inception, Iron Man 2, and many more), and with a thanks to the website io9 for the heads-up, check out the special effects workflow video right below.

Adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs' century-old classic science fiction tale, John Carter tells the story of Civil War hero John Carter, who is mysteriously transported from Earth to the red planet of Mars; known as "Barsoom" to its natives. There, he becomes part of a conflict between the various nations of the planet, whose leaders include Tars Tarkas and Princess Dejah Thoris. Directed by Andrew Stanton, and starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, and Thomas Haden Church, the movie was released on March 9, 2012.
