JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL Concept Art Reveals A Cool New Take On The Batcave And Batcomputer

Justice League Mortal never saw the light of day, but concept art from the cancelled DC Comics movie continues finding its way online, and this piece takes us inside the Dark Knight's Batcave...

The director behind the upcoming Miller's Justice League Mortal documentary, Ryan Unicomb, has shared more concept art from the unmade DC Comics adaptation, this time focusing on the Batcave.

As you can see, Armie Hammer's Dark Knight stands in front of the Batcomputer in a rather grounded take on this iconic location. However, while there's no giant coin or dinosaur, it is pretty atmospheric, and this would have been very cool to see on the big screen. Look closely, and you'll notice that Alfred Pennyworth appears to be approaching Gotham City's Caped Crusader.

Recently, Unicomb also shared a piece of artwork depicting the cowl that Batman would have donned in Justice League Mortal, a film originally set to be released in 2008 or 2009.

An impressive cast was assembled, but the writers strike and some budgetary issues led to Warner Bros. deciding to prioritise solo films like The Dark Knight and Green Lantern. A Justice League movie wouldn't arrive until 2017's effort, well, we all know how that turned out!

What do you guys think about this artwork?

Looks great. I think the live action Batcaves have been seriously lacking in the movies. Nothing has captured the scale of an large cave like BTAS or the comics represent.

Here's hoping The Batman has a kickass comic-accurate Batcave

@Nightwing1015 - man... nothing’s screaming kick ass comic-accurate about that film except from a bunch of fan fetched theories about gun parts being his symbol smh 😒😒

The two main reasons this film got scrapped seem so minor... one was Australia not giving tax rebates, which could have been solved by shooting elsewhere. The other was that WB were scared of having two cinematic Batmen running at the same time... which is even dumber. Wonder if that documentary on this ever comes out, wanna hear more about the behind the scenes on this.

@tmp3 - There was also the writer's strike at the time that really hindered it's progress.

@tmp3 - After the Writer's Strike ended, there was a lot of behind the scenes bullsh!t, that led to multiple production delays. And The Dark Knight's success, absolutely was a factor.

The Australian government denied Warner Bros. a 40 percent tax rebate as they felt they had not hired enough Australian actors. Miller was frustrated, stating that "A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Australian film industry is being frittered away because of very lazy thinking. They're throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars of investment that the rest of the world is competing for and, much more significantly, highly skilled creative jobs." Production offices were then moved to Vancouver Film Studios in Canada. Filming was pushed back to July 2008, while Warner Bros was still confident they could release the film for a summer 2009 release.

With production delays continuing, and the success of The Dark Knight in 2008, Warner Bros. decided to focus on development of individual films featuring the main heroes, allowing director Christopher Nolan to separately complete his Batman trilogy with The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. Gregory Noveck, senior vice president of creative affairs for DC Entertainment stated "we’re going to make a Justice League movie, whether it’s now or 10 years from now. But we’re not going to do it and Warners is not going to do it until we know it’s right."Actor Adam Brody joked "They [Warner Brothers] just didn’t want to cross their streams with a whole bunch of Batmans in the universe." Warner Bros. relaunched development for the solo Green Lantern film, released in 2011 as a critical and financial disappointment.

This looks great. Burton's Batcave is the only one that got it right imo, and was the main inspiration for TAS.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Burton, whatever you may say about his Batmans, got a lot right.

That is awesome. It even has enough space for Batman's future trophies too.

I don't think anybody's ever asked Christopher Nolan about this movie. For obvious reasons, there's no way he could've been happy about it. I can totally imagine him convincing WB to cancel an expensive project, that they were probably nervous about anyway. Crazy to think, that they chose to greenlight Green Lantern, instead of giving JL Mortal another shot.

Wish they’d release this movie’s script as an animated movie with designs inspired by the film’s designs
