Zack Snyder Says REBEL MOON - PART 2's "Last Supper" Scene Was Originally Conceived For JUSTICE LEAGUE Sequel

As we know, Zack Snyder was planning to helm at least two sequels to Justice League, and the filmmaker has now revealed that one key scene from Rebel Moon - Part 2 was originally conceived for JL 2.

Rebel Moon - Part 2: The Scargiver is now streaming on Netflix, and director Zack Snyder has revealed that one key "calm before the storm" sequence leading up to the climactic battle was originally conceived for his planned Justice League sequel.

In the scene in question, Kora and her allies sit down and talk about what brought them together and led them into conflict with the Imperium, as each character's backstory is revealed through flashback.

As we know, Snyder had mapped out the stories for two follow-ups to Justice League, but never got the opportunity to see them to fruition after stepping away from the first movie following the death of his daughter, Autumn. While speaking to THR, the filmmaker explained how this "Last Supper" scene would have factored into Justice League 2.

"There absolutely is a Last Supper in Justice League 2, and the scene had them telling the stories of how they got there, because Justice League 2 was going to open with us now 10 years in the future. And yes, [Rebel Moon — Part Two’s sequence] has a similar sort of structure to the Justice League 2 scene that we have."

In a separate interview with GQ, Snyder reiterated that the sequels would have primarily focused on Superman's battle with Darkseid.

"At his peak, [Superman] was going to have to succumb to the anti-life, be destroyed, turn the clock back, and then get his chance for this battle with Darkseid that would have finished the trilogy... and sort of return him to his humanity. That was our hope."

Snyder also states that there is one project he would return to DC for: A live-action adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns starring Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman.

The chances of us ever seeing it seem very slim, but we know that the new DCU will also include "Elseworlds" projects, so who knows what could happen down the line?

Rebel Moon - Part 2 sees the return of Sofia Boutella as Kora, the titular Scargiver, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of evolving robot guardian Jimmy. The sequel will also feature Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Sky Yang, and Charlotte Maggi.

"Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle, the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made."

I'd be interested to see the first weekend viewer stats for part 2 over part 1.

@BlackBolt84 -
The most depressing part is that some schmuck backed the money truck up to his house and dumped a big pile on him to do this stuff. Either they are complete schmucks with no taste or they disrespect their audience to such a huge degree that they are foisting it on them with a straight face.

@BlackBolt84 - who did he hack? Did he steal stories off of other people?
BlackBolt84

@lazlodaytona - Well yes, actually. Rebel Moon is a massive ripoff of Seven Samurai (and its sci-fi anime reimagining, Samurai Seven), as well as a bunch of other imagery and themes from IPs such as Star Wars and Warhammer 40k. All of that stuff is pretty obviously on display here in Rebel Moon. He even originally pitched it as a Star Wars movie and got turned down.

@BlackBolt84 - ok. My bad. I've just never been interested in his Rebel Moon films or even 300.

It was this point in the film that I said Outlook "so this it, this is the movie." It was not a positive revelation.

Terrible scene, people I did't care about and who have no personality, clunkily dumping exposition all in one scene

The Rebel Moon nonsense aside, if you like any of Snyder's earlier work, I highly recommend watching the GQ interview. Say what you will about him, but he's undeniably passionate about cinema and comic books.

@MarkCassidy -
With all due respect, that can describe millions of people. The problem is that he butchered some of the most iconic IP on planet earth and is still having to explain those weak creative decisions years later. It's not about whether he's a swell dude, by all accounts he is. It's not about whether he's passionate about this or that. It's about whether he's a competent director and should be allowed to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on what almost anyone with a budget could pull off.

If you shed a tear for "Martha" then I'm sorry but damn gang, this stuff is just objectively bad. Other than the two stellar efforts he made producing other people's work as faithfully as possible all his other work is bad.

@Goldboink - True, he's obviously not alone in being passionate about things, I just mean that it really comes across in that interview and makes for an interesting watch. Also, I like Man of Steel and his director's cut of JL.

@MarkCassidy - that's why I'm surprised at the hate towards him.
1st off, his freaking kid committed suicide and WBs used that as an excuse to get rid of him. .

Yeah....he made some mistakes and definitely over-reached with the DCEU. Man of Steel was solid but not near as good as Chris Reeve's Superman introduction while saving Lois in front of the public.

Batman v Superman sucked.. follow the Bruce Timm version of the 1st time they meet and it works.

Zach's JL I loved. Very good story telling. It got me to a point I'd love to see what would have happened in the sequels..

I know Snyder marches to a different beat, but at least he's daring and fully believes in the people helping him and his projects .... received negativity or received good.

@MarkCassidy -
Man of Steel was almost good but a few creative decisions, like making Pa Kend a doosh, diminished it for me. Didn't like JL in any of it's iterations.
