Warner Bros. Animation Rumored To Be Developing CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Animated Trilogy

Crisis on Infinite Earths is easily one of the most ambitious DC Comics stories ever told, and Warner Bros. Animation is now rumoured to be working on an adaptation that will play out over three parts...

2021 was an interesting year for the DC Animated Universe; Injustice majorly disappointed, while Batman: The Long Halloween proved to be a mostly very good two-part adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's classic comic book. However, Justice Society: World War II arguably stole the show.

Now, it's looking like Warner Bros. Animation's most ambitious project to date is on the way. According to producer/film critic Matías Léorta, "DC is purportedly planning a three-part animated adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths, which would bring together different versions of its heroes."

While some fans will no doubt be hoping for a 100% comic accurate adaptation of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez's Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline (which ran from 1985 to 1986), an animated version presents Warner Bros. with a unique opportunity. Batman: The Animated Series kicked off the DCAU in 1992, and characters from the show and every movie and TV series that's followed could easily be included in this three-parter.

That could be epic, and telling the story over three movies is certainly an ambitious undertaking.

If we're getting an official announcement about this Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation, it probably won't be until much later in 2022 based on past experience. Talking of next year, we have Catwoman: HuntedGreen Lantern: Beware My Power, and Battle of the Super Sons to look forward to.
