Warner Bros. Once Courted Will Smith To Star In LOBO
While Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was once in talks to play Lobo in a film adaptation of the DC Comics bounty hunter (which the actor recently said "went away"), it turns out that one of Warner Bros.' other choices for the role was none other than Will Smith.
Here's a very, very interesting "what if?" scenario. In their article reporting the actor's negotiations to star in Warner Bros.' Focus, The Hollywood Reporter adds a small note about the studio's desire to reteam with Will Smith, who starred in 2007's I Am Legend. The site says that WB has courted Smith (who will next be seen in June 7th's After Earth) for several projects, and one of these was none other than Lobo, one of several DC Comics adaptations said to be in development. Presumably, Smith was being targeted to play the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter before Dwayne Johnson (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) entered talks to take on the role. Despite being interested in the project (which would've seen his reteaming with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton), "The Rock" more recently stated that the film "just went away", suggesting that Lobo is no longer in active development.
While it looks like it won't happen now, Will Smith as Lobo is certainly a bizarre idea. Would you be interested in seeing that casting come through? If not, then who would you like to see play the DC Comics bounty hunter?
