DARK UNIVERSE Reportedly Wants The Rock For THE WOLFMAN & Angelina Jolie For BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

It seems Universal is still high on getting Dwayne Johnson and Angelina Jolie on board to play The Wolfman and the Bride of Frankenstein, respectively, in their Dark Universe. More past the jump...

Though we have heard whispers of this before now, a new report suggests that Universal is still high on getting a couple more massive stars added to their Dark Universe.

According to THR, the studio is eager to sign Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson up as The Wolfman, and Angelina Jolie as The Bride of Frankenstein, which is to be the next film in the burgeoning classic monster franchise. No negotiations have taken place yet (as far as we know, anyway) so we'll have to take theses potential castings as rumor for the time being.

At any rate, not convincing Johnson and Jolie to join the fun may be the least of Universal's worries, as a separate source indicates that Warner Bros. is "mulling over" legal action for the rights to the Dark Universe brand.

More on all of this as we have it, but in the meantime be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

@Desrow -

Dark Universe for DC was a 'working title' for a project that is barely even in development. They could probably attempt to sue Universal, but it would likely fail given that Universal is not using it as a movie title anyway - but instead as a way of referring to a collection of over-arcing storylines.

In addition Universal has been using the 'Dark Universe' title since the 1930's for advertising the monster movies - i believe one of the most memorable phrases being "Enter a Dark Universe of horror and monsters"

DC cannot sue them for the use of the term because it's used to describe their film universe as a whole - the same way that Marvel would not be able to sue any other company for using the term 'Cinematic', 'Universe' or 'Cinematic Universe'. It reminds me heavily of the Fine Brothers attempting to claim ownership of the term and idea of reactions.

Either way, the Universal Dark Universe sadly will likely never get past 'The Mummy'. They tried and failed to start this universe with Dracula Untold and the Mummy is likely going to underperform of flop given the tough competition and that many just view this as a generic action movie.

Are the old movies good? I've never saw The Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Invisible Man.

@IcemanX

They are classics, good? Pretty good, except for 1 or 2 hiccups.

@Desrow - LOL good gif! I have my doubts about the rock as Wolfman. The character is wasted he loses his angst and sorrow over the curse. I'm not sure the rock has the chops for that. Angelina on the other hand is a very good actor and she would be a great choice for the bride. The bride of Frankenstein is one of my all-time favorites and I would love to see a modern version fleshed out more since the original is like only 70 some minutes (I think, I know it was really short). Karloff's creature was truly magnificent as it was horrifying and intriguing. 90% of the portrayals fall so short.

@Scarilian - Besides, I think it should be "Dark Universal" anyway. After all that's what's circling the planet in all those classics
