As you all may remember, recently there was video placed here on ComicBook Movie.com via Youtube about Batman confronting a peophile. Well apparently the Flash has also gotten in on the act. This is something that has been going on for awhile now and apparently the RCMP are concerned about the pairs safety. Here is the article about the new crime fighting Duo, taken from the Globe and Mail .
"Police in the British Columbia community of Chilliwack are talking to four males who produced their own alleged crime-fighting videos and posted them on YouTube.
The videos appeared to be based on the Dateline NBC TV series “To Catch a Predator.”
In the videos, the males say they’ve lured older men by pretending to be a 15-year-old girl online. Dressed in superhero costumes, including Batman and The Flash, the males then confront the older men.
RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth says police are now involved and are conducting interviews with the four males. Two of them are 17 years old, one 18, and the other 20.
She says police intervened because they were concerned about the males’ safety, and their videos have now been removed from YouTube.
Cpl. Hollingsworth says police have not identified any of the other men in the videos.
“I don't think they really realized the scope of this and what the consequences could have been,” said Cpl. Hollingsworth.
Corporal Mat Van Laer of the RCMP’s child exploitation unit said police are opposed to members of the public taking justice into their own hands.
“As much as the idea might seem appealing, to conduct such a stunt, it does have some inherent risks, first of all to yourself,” he said. “[They] put their own safety at risk by engaging with total strangers and confronting them overtly in public.”
Cpl. Van Laer said the move could also have put children in the community at risk.
“We’re dealing with potential sexual predators, people that have a deviant sexual interest in children. They have arguably now been aroused to a certain degree by a chat. ... You have no control on the actions of that person afterwards. Depending on their state of mind, what if they do go out and run across another child and feel the urge to offend?”
Cpl. Van Laer said the RCMP’s child exploitation unit does conduct similar sting operations from coast to coast, though he declined to provide further details to protect the integrity of such investigations.
He said the investigation is still in the hands of the Chilliwack RCMP. When asked if the child exploitation unit would follow up on the file, Cpl. Van Laer said “probably.”
While police spoke out against the videos, the reaction online was overwhelmingly positive. A Facebook group dedicated to the teens filled with compliments Wednesday.
“I tip my hat to these three teenage boys for taking a stand to try and make their community a safer place,” wrote one of the social networking site’s users.
Said another: “I think what you did may have caused those men to think twice about doing it again. I congratulate you for your ingenuity and bravery.”
So that was the article, I thought you all might want an update. I for one comend these guys for doing this and think they should keep it up.
