Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle's domestic box-office dominance is likely coming to an end. Maze Runner: The Death Cure is set to take first place from the surprising action-comedy at the North American box office this weekend, ending Jumanji's three-week run in the top spot.

The Jake Kasdan-directed film had an unconventional path to becoming a hit, finishing second to Star Wars: The Last Jedi for the first three weeks of its theatrical run. However, Jumanji managed to take first place in its fourth week and has held that spot ever since. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has earned over $325 million so far on a $90 million budget.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure earned an estimated $8.4 million on Friday, and is on pace for an opening weekend in the $22-24 million range. The first two films in the series earned over $30 million in their opening weekends, but with a three-year gap between the second and third films, a bit of a drop-off was expected.

The Death Cure's release was delayed due to injuries star Dylan O'Brien sustained during filming two years ago.
