Guilty Pleasures, the films that you enjoy or love even when you know they are terrible or have been critically panned by audiences and critics alike. We all have at least one of them. A film we're embarrassed to tell our friends about liking. I'm going to list my four biggest guilty pleasures in film. Of, course, be sure to list your own in the comments area below, and of course be nice, even if somebody says they like Batman and Robin, be respectful. Any, without further adew, check out my list below.
The Room (2003)
I decided to put this as the first on my list because obviously, it's not a comic book movie, it's "apparently" a black comedy according to the trailers for the film though, so take that for all it's worth.
This is a film where absolutley everything goes wrong; the writing, the acting, the direction, everything goes wrong. Not many films can achieve such a feat. The film follows our protagonist Johnny (Tommy Wiseau) as we see him play football numerous times an engage in several scenes of pointless sexual intercorse with his girlfriend, Lisa, who is cheating on Johnny with his best friend Mark. That's the basis of the plot but there are so many stupid, pointless and hilarious other plot holes to laugh at. This film is enjoyed by so many because of it's infamously un-intentionally hilarious scenes. As I have said, everything goes wrong in this movie, but it's a cinematic atrocity that's so much fun to watch and laugh.
"So, anyway, how is you sex life?"
Judge Dredd (1995)
With the new Judge Dredd reboot hitting cinemas this month, I think it's time to remind people of how hilariously wonderful the first Dredd film starring Sylvester Stallone was. Like The Room, the film is filled with hilarious moments that I don't think were supposed to be taken so humorous, or maybe some of the actors knew the cruddy movie they were in and wanted to ham it up as much as possible. The film does look fairly nice for 1995 but that's the only real compliment I can give it honestley. It's not for everybody of course, especially hardcore Judge Dredd fans but I find it to be an entertaining, laugh-filled film.
"I am the Law!"
Transformers (2007)
Now, I know at lot of people actually really, really like this movie, but I will tell you why it's a guilty pleasure for me. Okay, so I hate Michael Bay with every fiber of my being. From his crappy Pearl Harbor film to his recent screw up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But, I can't help it, this movie is so freaking action-packed and fun I can't help but enjoy. Sure, Shia Lebeouf is poor, sure Megan Fox has the personality of a Barbie doll and sure it does continue Michael Bay's weird thing with stereotyping black people but I can't help but enjoy this film. The robot fights are awesome, the CGI is amazing and it's a ton of fun to watch besides all it's faults. I think this is the film I feel most self-hate for liking. Transformers is in no decent world a good movie, it is just an enjoyable one.
"She's a criminal, criminals are HOT!"
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
I said it. Yes, I hate myself the most for liking Transformers but this is the film I know you will all hate me for liking. I do realize all the problems with this movie; the poor character development, Venom, Sandman not being sympathetic. But I enjoy this movie the same way I enjoy Transformers. When I saw this film in the cinema, I was amazed, I truly was, but then I realized how poor the film really was. But again, to my surprise when I re-watched the film again before seeing The Amazing Spider-Man, I still enjoyed the movie for the amazing action scenes, un-intentional laughs and the strong performances from J.K. Simmons and more are still present from the last two films. It's probably my ultimate Guilty Pleasure considering how many people despise this movie. But, hey, I like it, end of story I guess.
"I'm going to put some dirt in your eye!"
So, there's my list of guilty pleasures, I can't wait to hear what you all thought of my list and I hope you can list your most embarrassing guilty pleasures in the comments area below.
