Coming off rave reviews for his feature directorial debut, Pig, Michael Sarnoski has been enlisted to write and direct a big screen adaptation of Nick Drnaso’s acclaimed graphic novel Sabrina for New Regency and RT Features.
The story follows a "grieving man whose girlfriend goes missing and who goes to live with his old friend – an Air Force surveillance expert agent who is dealing with a failed marriage. After a grisly videotape is sent anonymously to news outlets, Sabrina’s disappearance goes viral. As the 24-hour news cycle and social media take hold of the story, the two men are targeted by vitriolic conspiracy theorists that threaten their sense of the truth and their faith in each other."
The 2018 book was praised for its commentary on the modern-day climate of "fake news," and is the first graphic novel to be longlisted for the Booker Prize. Drew Goddard was said to be in line to write and produce an earlier take on the material back in 2019, but that version evidently fell apart.
Sabrina will not be Sarnoski's next project, as he's set to take the helm of the third instalment in the A Quiet Place franchise for Paramount. Plot details are under wraps, but it's not expected to serve as a direct follow-up to Part II.
