The film "Shutter Island" being released on February 19, 2010 is based on the 1993 novel by Dennis Lehane, who held the rights to the film after Columbia lost them. He then eventually sold the rights.

Tokyopop; a well known distributor, licensor and publisher of Japanese anime and manga will publish a 128-page graphic novel on January 5, 2010. The release date of the graphic novel will take place a month before the release of the film.

"Shutter Island" involves two U.S. marshals portrayed by Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Ruffalo who travel to a mental institution on an island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the disappearance of a patient. While on the island the investigation becomes more complicated with the arrival of a hurricane, the deceit displayed by the chief administrator of the hospital as well as a riot created by patients.

The 128-page graphic novel marks the first time a novel by Dennis Lehane becomes adapted for the comic book universe.

I'm a admirer of Dicaprio's films so I'm interested to see how he and Martin handles this one. I'll probably check out the graphic novel before watching the movie.

Oh thank God...

You mean that this movie isn't another remake of some Japanese film (I.E. The Departed being remade from the Inferno Affairs trilogy.)

That makes me wanna see this movie now. That something original is actually coming from us and the Japanese are expanding off of it is a nice change.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Departed and the fact that it lived up to its name...everybody departed. (Pun intended) Head shots and quick deaths for everybody...except for Jack Nickolson who was the only one that got a long, drawn out death.

But at the same time American cinema has been ripping off of Japan for too long. Its about time they take something from us, but no doubt that I think that they will do it justice with the graphic novel. I might actually read it, after watching the movie.

@EphPhaThaINC

Internal Affairs is a Hong Kong film...that means China

Many make the assumption but the actors are predominantly Chinese and the features are noticeable.

Don't fret though, just giving you the heads up
