The Walking Dead Casting Rumors

The Walking Dead Casting Rumors

We know that AMC (the guys behind Mad Men) will be bringing the comic to life as a TV series with Frank Darabont aboard to direct. But who will play the lead role of Zombie smasher Rick Grimes? Bigshinyrobot claims to have the top 3 contenders...

I have no idea how valid Bigshinyrobot's sources are but they seem pretty confident that the following 3 chaps could well be in the running for Rick and 2 of them are great choices I think.

This is what they have to say:

Big Shiny Robot! has talked to a few different sources about names that are in the ring for the series and we’re pretty happy. There are a couple of sources we talked to with varying reliability, but these names all made a lot of sense, so we want to throw these out there and get the conversation going.

They say their most reliable source points them to Jamie Bamber who you may recognize as Lee "Appolo" Adama from Battelstar Galactica.

Next is Mark Pelligrino who plays Jacob on Lost and has also appeared in Dexter

Finally we have Stuart Townsend, the man who was almost Aragorn and almost Fandrall..but who you may know best as ..emm, ..oh yeah he made a pathetic attempt at playing Lestat in Queen Of The Damned and the worst thing in League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen(Which is saying something)..I really hope he gets the part!!

I have only recently begun reading this awesome comic thanks to some of you guys recommendations and I am very glad I did. I haven't seen everything Mr Grimes has to offer yet obviously, but out of these choices I'm leaning towards Pelligrino. What do you think Zombie fans?

Pelligrino was such a bastard in Dexter. He still gets my vote because he looks like Rick. He better start working on his accent.

What's wrong with the Bamber guy?

I would be fine with Bamber too, I just think Pelligrino might be a better fit. As long as Townsend doesn't get anywhere near it I'll be happy. Then again, even if he doe get the job he will probably be fired once they realize he's shit anyway!

Great find! I guess I'll be the odd man out and say Jamie Bamber. I'm sure it was just a stupid typo Ror, but Apollo is two L's not two P's.

Stuart Townsend should find a different career and give up acting all together. Face Stuart, you just can't act no matter how many classes you take. You can try being a janiter. And theres always work at the post office.

TheAnswer@ Holy crap When I first heard of a TWD show my first thought was Noah, creepy, I even talked about to some friends I think he would rock that part, I bet they put Robert Knepper as the Gov.

out of these guys, i'd have to go with pelligrino. he just seems like the better fit. i wouldn't mind Bamber either, but he just doesn't strike me as being the grizzled type character that rick turns into.

can't wait for this show!!!! it has the potential to be epic!

blankofthedead - 2/15/2010, 10:08 AM
@corndog, agreed. I have no doubt that the show will not waste that potential. I just hope it has a fair medium for the horror and also the drama of it. I know the book rely less on the horror aspect, but I'd love to be more spooked in the show than just kinda feelin bummed for rick

I'm not sure who suggested Thomas Jane first but I'm 100% with you! He would be perfect! But would he actually do cable TV? Oh and btw, is anyone else concerned about how this would be portrayed on a channel such as AMC? I personally think this needs to be handled by a Showtime, HBO or Starz type channel, in order not to loose some of the key elements of what makes this story unique and not just another story about zombies. Having it on AMC I think is a huge risk, considering how much will have to be edited out, in order to fit in with the network. This concerns me greatly.

@WalkingDead - Holy shit that was cool!!! Even though it looked home made (cause it was ...) it was extremely well done!!!!Great find man, thanks for sharing it with the rest of us Walking Dead fans (pun intended).

I'll say Pelligrino, just because he's shown more range in his body of work that I've seen.

Thomas Jane already has his own show on HBO, which is shooting it's second season pretty soon, so I don't think he'll be in the running.

Good point BillyBlack. How about Colin Ferguson from Eureka? We know he can play a small town sheriff and he has the right look...

Don't be too concerned about AMC taking the reins. They have done some pretty dark stuff of late, including Breaking Bad, which is an awesome and very gritty show. They pull no punches there, language, violence and gore are on par with what HBO/Showtime and FX has to offer. I think we could be in good hands.

Sorry to disappoint... wait... is that you dad?

BillyBlack - there is sense in what you stated. Perhaps it's not that bad. i do hope they stick close to the source material though. I'm not even a big zombie fan, but this stuff is golden!!!!
