Top 10 Perfect CBM Castings!

A list of the ten actors who best fit the roles of their respective comic book characters!

Some actors were just born to play certain roles. This has definitely been evident in comic book movies over the years. It's not that they are just giving great performances, it's that they appear to literally be the real-life versions of these characters. It's as if someone took them out of a comic book and made them real people. These are the top ten actors who completely embodied their roles.

#10. Heath Ledger as The Joker (The Dark Knight)

Th Dark Knight is, in my opinion, the greatest comic book movie of all time and Heath Ledger's performance was the main reason behind that. The only reason he's so far down on the list is because I think it was more his acting skills that made him so great than the fact that he was really born to play this role. However, I doubt we'll ever get a better version of this character on film again.

#9. Chloe Grace-Moretz as Hit-Girl (Kick-Ass)

Hit-Girl must have been a very hard role to cast given how adult the role is for a young girl to play. However, I think Chloe Grace-Moretz was the perfect choice. She brought all of the violence and vulgarity that the role required while still being able to keep it all hidden behind the shell of a seemingly cute innocent girl. Overall, she was a badass and I can't imagine anyone else topping her in that role.

#8. Michael Chiklis as The Thing (Fantastic Four 1, 2)

Let me start off by saying that neither Fantastic Four movies were at all good. In fact, they were pretty awful. But one of the saving graces of the movies was Chiklis's performance as The Thing. He both sounded just like how I imagine him when I read the comics and if they had used better special effects/costumes, he would have looked exactly like him too. Not a good movie, but a perfect casting choice.

#7. Christopher Reeve as Superman (Superman 1, 2, 3, 4)

Christopher Reeve is and will always be who most people think about when they think about a live-action superman. This is partly because he was the first one, but also because he really did embody everything about both Superman and Clark Kent. I was a big fan of Brandon Routh as Superman, but he could not step into that character the same way Reeve did, and while Henry Cavill will probably be great, I doubt he can either.

#6. Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach (Watchmen)

What was once deemed the unfilmable graphic novel ended up becoming a pretty good movie. In my mind, Haley's dark performance as Rorschach was the highlight. He was able to take everything about the character from the book and incorporate it into his performance. Even though the the role called for an actor to be behind a mask for most of the movie, I don't think anyone could have done it better.

#5. Patrick Stewart as Professor X (X-Men 1, 2, 3, Wolverine)

I think that James McAvoy did a terrific job in the role of Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class, and even though I liked that movie more than the original trilogy, I think Patrick Stewart did a better job establishing the fictional character into a real life man...er, mutant.. His performance was spot on and it didn't hurt that he looked exactly like him.

#4. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man 1, 2)

When word first came out that Downey Jr. had gotten the role of Iron Man, people were hesitant. Even Jon Favreau had his reservations at first before he officially cast him. As it turned out, the joke was on us because Downey Jr. gave one of the most spot-on performances we have ever seen. He captured the smugness and arrogance of the character, but also the charming and heroic side. I'm thrilled that he'll be the one to play this character for many years to come. As he said himself....he IS Iron Man.

#3. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (X-Men 1, 2, 3, Wolverine, First Class)

Patrick Stewart may have embodied the role of Professor X, but Hugh Jackman did it even better as Wolverine. It was so different from anything Jackman had done before, but this is truly the role he was born to play. Say what you want about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it at least gave us a full movie of Jackman in all of his Wolverine glory and that can't be a bad thing. The movie still sucked, though.

#2. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (Iron Man 1, 2, Thor)

Samuel L. Jackson was literally the real-life version of this character. The Ultimate version of Nick Fury is based on Jackson so when they decided to go with that version of the movie, who else could they have cast? He hasn't been given too much to do in these movies (yet), but no one can argue that he isn't the perfect man for the job.

#1. J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson (Spider-Man 1, 2, 3)

J.K. Simmons simply was the best choice out of anyone to play this character. He played J. Jonah Jameson to perfection, from his looks, to his voice, to his mannerisms, to his personality. Ultimate Nick Fury may have been based on Samuel L. Jackson in the comics, but it's as if Jameson was based on Simmons without the writers of the comics even knowing. He had a fairly small role in all three Spider-Man films but that made every moment he was on screen even sweeter. It's a shame they couldn't have kept him for The Amazing Spider-Man, but at least he'll be voicing the character in the upcoming cartoon series. J.K. Simmons was the most spot-on casting choice in the history of comic book movies.

Please tell me what you think of the list in the comments. I'd love to hear your picks. Thanks for reading!

Cavill will do a better job than lame routh did as Superman.

I agree with "DanielThomasRandKai" about Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon. PERFECT CASTING RIGHT THERE. And about the Octopus guy and MIchael Fassbender as Magneto. All three of those were perfect castings.

Also Reeve wasn't the first live-action Superman. Reeves came before Reeve AND Kirk Alyn was the first live-action Superman.

Chris Evans deserves to be on the list more so then Chilkis. The dude was the living embodiment of Johnny Storm, so does Gary Oldman the best actor in Nolans Batman movie. And people seriously need to stop with Fassbender thing the dude was great as ERIK, he was only MAGNETO for what like 10 minutes or so. Let's see him play a proper villainous Magneto whole of the movie before he gets lablled "perfect", he'll probably nail it but I'll rather wait and see. Downey, Oldman and JK Simmons for would tied in first place

Hey guys, thanks for the comments! Yeah, both Oldman and Molina were very close to making the list, as was McKellan. But you know, to each his own, right? :)

Dont forget James Marsden as cyclops he was very convincing in my book!

Nice list. I think Chris Evans as Johnny Storm was pretty dead-on too. I would put SLJ lower because while he is Ultimate Nick Fury, he doesn't really have the classic Nick Fury feel at all. Since that version of the character has only been around for about a decade, most fans probably don't feel like Nick Fury has been done justice so far.

I disagree with you on #8 and ESPECIALLY #4 (way too old and it should have been Colin Farrel!) and #2.

With the exception of #9 and #6, I agree with your picks. Nice list. :)

I agree with all of these except Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury because when I see him on screen I see Samuel Jackson not Nick Fury. Ones that should be honorable mentions are Aaron Eckhart as Two Face, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn, and Ian McKellan as Magneto.

I agree with all but 10 and 3. While I enjoyed Heath's Joker; it wasn't quite the Joker that I grew up with. I grew up with clean-cut, goof-ball who is more into driving people insane than he is with killing people. Granted: he caused a lot of chaos, but even so. Now: you might say that I merely disagree with the script, but that's not quite so. His look was bad, also. Personally: I think that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have been a MUCH better actor for the role.

As for Wolverine: the height isn't as big of an issue for me, as it is for other people. My big issue is the fact that he just didn't play the little bastard that he should have played. In "X-Men": he was quite the bastard, but that was it. He didn't do much for the role, beyond the first one. I think that they should have cast Russell Crowe.

So: to fill in those two gaps: Elias Koteas as Casey Jones and Ian McKellan as Magneto.

bale has to be on here forget SLJ as fury he isnt fury he may look like the ultimate version but that is it fury should have been dennis quaid or even tom berenger then it wouldve been a great casting...fassbender should def be on here and ledger wasnt the perfect joker yea he did a great acting performance but he did not do the joker from the comic book and after all that is what we r ranking rite...ledger played a great alex delarge with eric draven's makeup but not a great comic book faithful joker we r still waiting for that
OneAboveAll
OneAboveAll - 6/6/2011, 1:45 AM
I completely disagree with you superguy....although Jack was great as "Jack"...ledger was as good as it gets for comic book villians on the big screen...and although wolverine is typically portrayed as being about 5'9...and hugh is 6'2...they never shoot him as being that tall in the movies...I have spoken and my word is absolute

I agree with 90% of the list but certainly not the order. SLJ looks good enough for Fury but he's sucks a cting!

@GodDamnSuperguy Cavil looks like a young David Hasselhoff. That being said, by no means is The Hoff Jr. a good Superman!
marvelguy
marvelguy - 6/6/2011, 11:50 AM
Good list! I'd change the order. And yes, if you keep J.K. Simmons then you have to add Oldman as Gordon and Molina as Doc Ock.
Christopher Reeve should be one or two.

1. Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man
2. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
3. Heath Ledger as The Joker
4. Christian Bale as Batman (say what you will about his Batvoice, Bale's appearance is what I think of when I think of Bruce Wayne)
5. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock
6. Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man
7. Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face
8. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon
9. JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson
10. Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin

Ledger's Joker doesn't have comic Joker's style, but Nicholson's Joker doesn't have his intelligence or fright factor. When the Joker breaks out of Arkham in the comics, it's a very serious situation. Most of the time when Nicholson's Joker was on the loose, things were pretty calm. Once Ledger'sJoker got started, things were pretty darn dangerous in Gotham.

I think Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan is a perfect cast as well.
l0rdleg0las
l0rdleg0las - 6/7/2011, 6:02 PM
Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne. unlike any of his successors no one has nailed the role quite as well as Keaton. yes he was a little small and looks wise didn't mirror the comics, but his acting was spot on. His Batman was dark and intimidating without having to use a throat cancer voice. And his portrayal of Bruce Wayne is spot on. a sarcastic kind of smart ass rich boy with no worries to the public, but serious, wounded and extremely intelligent when out of the public eye.

of all Batman portrayals, Bale is below Keaton and Kilmer and just above Clooney and West although for the tone of what the old Adam West tv show was, West owned it.
