With a budget that was reportedly over $300 million, including marketing, Warner Bros. and DC's "Green Lantern" seems to be a flop after only recording $89 million domestically going into the Fourth of July weekend.
Warner Bros. and DC can't seem to catch a break with any of their characters, not named Batman, on the big screen.
This leaves me to believe that "Green Lantern" star Ryan Reynolds may pull out of any future GL films, due to the poor reception and performance of the film in theaters. Especially since a sequel is now in question.
So what's next for Reynolds?
The obvious choice is to bounce back over to the Marvel universe and continue his on-screen role as Deadpool, the "Merc with the Mouth."
If you're like me, then you were disappointed with how Deadpool was written in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." When Reynolds was Wade Wilson, at the start of the film, I had no issues—but what transpired in the last half of the film really got to me.
Regardless, after the film was released there were rumors a possible Deadpool spin-off might be in the works. Then Reynolds signed up to play GL/Hal Jordan and the spin-off rumors slowed until recently.
Reynolds has openly pursued the role of Deadpool since 2005, when he told the media he was working with screenwriter David Goyer on a script.
Do not doubt the fact Reynolds could be sitting at home right now, contemplating hanging up the green suit for a red one—but this is just my take.
