The Last Jedi is doing fantastic at the box office, and is nowhere near the exaggerated box office declines that many outlets are reporting. Some hold the opinion that this is Lucasfilm's Batman V. Superman when it comes to week-to-week drops, but this latest information proves that this is not the case. No, the film is going nowhere near the $2 billion its predecessor made, but no one expected to hit that theshold in the first place.
In a slim 18 days, the film has conquered the $1 billion dollar checkpoint, and that in itself is an amazing feat. It is currently the fourth fastest to do so (behind Furious 7, Jurassic World, and Force Awakens), but the second fastest to do so without the help of China, behind the Force Awakens of course. The film is expected to finish at around $1.5 billion at the box office, near the feats achieved by the Avengers films. It is important to note that while the film fell 68% in its second weekend domestic (55% if Christmas Day is included), the film is holding incredibly well this weekend with a 27% drop weekend to weekend. The movie has also contiunued to pull $20 million every day over the work week, which is also impressive.
It's clear the The Last Jedi is a monster at the box office, and Lucasfilm should be very happy this holiday season.
