AVATAR 2 Set Photo Reveals A Winged Kate Winslet Working Underwater On James Cameron's Sequel

Work on Avatar 2 has finished according to director James Cameron, while he recently said that 90% of the third instalment is also done. Now, though, the franchise's official Twitter account has shared a new look at star Kate Winslet working underwater...with the addition of some wings!

Recently, the actress talked about holding her breath during these scenes for upwards of seven minutes, and that can't have been easy wearing what look like a massive cape. It seems obvious that Winslet will play a Na'vi of some sort, but could these apparent wings point to the Oscar-winner playing another type of creature hailing from the depths of Pandora?

That remains to be seen, especially as plot details are being kept a closely guarded secret by Cameron and company. While the filmmaker has ambitious plans to release an Avatar 4 and 5, those are unconfirmed, and Disney is likely keen to see how the second and third chapters are received first.

It's been so long since Avatar was released that some fans have joked online that this next instalment might as well be a reboot, but one thing that has been made clear is that part two is a sequel.

This movie better be the second coming of Jesus if they have to go to these lengths to make it.

@Fares - considering the only groundbreaking thing in the original was the special effects, im not expecting much.

@dracula - Yes.

Cameron's been focusing into these shocking technical aspects since Titanic.

"oh look computer generated special effects" (the abyss)

"Oh look these special liquid metal effects" - (yes, T2 is ALSO awesome)

"oh look, they built a replica of the deck! they sent a sub to the real wreckage" (titanic is an ok film, deserves to be watched once)

"oh 3D tech, these cameras, so incredible, so real!" (avatar is a bad to average film at best)

Aliens and Terminator 2 arrived 7 years later. The man takes his time to perfect his craft. Based on this, I believe we're in for a nice surprise!

I don’t see this doing well. The first wasn’t great but because of the tech involved blew up, this time it doesn’t have that gimmick and has been ridiculed for years

@Twenty23Three - I’m not saying you’re wrong.

But never bank against Cameron when he makes a sequel. The guy is the King of making sequels.

As for the tech not having that gimmick, I’ve not personally seen any new footage of the sequel, I’d be amazed if you have. But, Cameron is the pioneer that’s made some of the biggest modern technological break throughs in current movie history. Modern block busters are built on his vision.

You can bet he’s took it a step further, and I’m willing to bet he’ll walk away from these sequels selling new ground breaking technology too.

Holding her breath for seven minutes? My bullsh*t alarm just went off.

@76cidgrad - It's possible, man. I don't know if you know who David Blaine is, but there's a video where he teaches a number of random celebrities how to increase their breath hold to like 4 minutes just using a simple method with only like 30 minutes of teaching, so just imagine the resources Kate Winslet had on a big budget production like this.

@76cidgrad - Plus, she never clarified her method and believe it or not there are breath holding techniques that still involve oxygen, so...

@76cidgrad - I believe Margot Robbie learned something similar for Suicide Squad.

I'm sure Cameron will deliver. Stephen Lang as the villain is always a must.

Damn! She had wings. She could have GIVEN DiCaprio that door to himself. Titanic solved.

7 mins 14 seconds? That's impressive. Tom Cruise's best was 6 and a half minutes on MI: Rogue Nation.
