The world of Pandora returns to the big screen in the second film of the franchise which acts as a follow up to the highest grossing film of all time (not adjusted for inflation). James Cameron is back in the director's chair looking to expand the world and technology of the series. But we all know that this movie will be gorgeous with all its visual sorcery, but can Cameron step up his game and deliver a film with stronger characters and a more original story. That is what I'll be taking a look at in this episode of Modern Movies from Journey Through Cinema.

Check out the video review below and feel free to leave a comment on what you though of Avater: The Way of Water .

I just want to see it for the 3D and the overall visuals. And I expect some action. That's what James is good at, and expect nothing more.

He definitely delivered a stronger story and more characterization, nevermind the astonishing visuals

@Lem1 - agreed! The previous film’s plot was already played out by even 2009. This one felt more unique while the characters had more going on.

Also, one thing O had hoped for with 1st film I got in this one - that gripping, nailbiting tension and suspense he executed to perfection in movies like The Abyss.
After the 3 hours, I wasn't ready for the movie to be over. Definitely gotta see it again

@Lem1 - yeah, I found the action, though smaller in scale to be more gripping as the stakes felt more personal

Loved the film! Equal to part1 but I may prefer the first... have to see Way of Water again to fully say.

@AvatarSupremacy - for me, I found this film superior to the first. Just liked that it wasn’t following as tired plot template as much and the action was more engaging.
