Today, 20th Century Fox held their CinemaCon 2012 panel. Amidst debuting new footage from
Taken 2 and
Neighborhood Watch, Fox Co-Chairman/Chief Creative Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment Tom Rothman hinted that we may be soon see a sequel to
Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a reboot of the popular franchise released last year to critical acclaim. A list of movies that the studio is planning on beginning production on this year has been revealed. One of those movies mentioned were the
Apessequel. Also on the list were
The Wolverine and
Robocalypse.
Coming Soon speculates that Fox may schedule the sequel as its third summer 2013 movie, or the more open fall/winter slate. Additionally, the studio hasn't confirmed that director Rupert Wyatt will be returning (despite his postponing work on
Londongrad in case Fox decides to fast track
Apes 2), and star Andy Serkis may be busy working on
The Hobbit this fall (although he has signed on for the sequel).
