- A Good Farewell To Matt
Since he's been in the boots of the Doctor from kissing his legs and wondering if he was a girl to discovering his destiny in the show's 50th; Matt Smith has seen the programme go from a British hit to a global one. Although it wasn't all to Matt's credit as he's simply there to learn his lines and give a great performance; you can't exactly say that any one person should be held responsible for why DOTD was broadcast all over the world on TV and in cinemas at the same (fixed) point in time and space.. Matt hasn't faced the Master, nor has he had the character's darker side shine within his tenure, but like Hatrnell is remembered as the grumpy grandad, Tennant as the popular one, Matt will be remembered as the guy who's middle name was slapstick and who danced around the TARDIS. And that should be given a proper goodbye.
- Resolution
This might get on some people's nerves as they've probably run into this twelve thousand times over, but when Matt leaves, his tenure is finished, and with that should be a resolution and explanation behind all the open plot threads dating back all the way to The Eleventh Hour. Even if Moffat has to go out of his way to explain such information as who blew up the TARDIS, who was the girl in the shop, and what is Trenzalore; it will make the fans satisfied and and casual viewers happy. Steven has said in interviews that such questions will be answered, so I trust him.
- A New Beginning/ The SKYFALL Effect
In the 23rd Bond film, Skyfall; by the end of the film, it hinted at a fresh start that had the original group of characters ready for action after celebrating 50 years of the franchise. Now with Steven apparently revealing in interviews that Matt is in fact the 12th regeneration and final incarnation of the time traveller, this means that Capaldi is the first Doctor for not only a new breed of fans in his first full series, but for a whole new generation in the 51st year of the show. If this is going the way I think it is, then the show will start with the Doctor, the TARDIS, his companion and him no longer running away from, but towards Gallifrey and will bring into retrospective and conclusion half a century of Who finished in the unofficial trilogy, The Name of the Doctor, The Day of the Doctor, and The Time of the Doctor.
- Geronimo
By making Smith the 'last' Doctor, Moffat's really made me okay with the fact that Tennant's last words were "I don't want to go" as he thought the 13th incarnation of himself would be the Valeyard so he didn't want the good in him to go and it explains why Smith went to lengths such as faking his own death at Lake Silencio because he didn't want to actually DIE.. But by the end of this regeneration, I want Smith to know that he has regenerations left in him somehow and that everything's going to be okay and he'll be fine with that phase of him gone as he's "wearing a bit thin".
