In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet's crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium - but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens' luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission - one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces - but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

ELYSIUM written and directed by Neill Blomkamp ("District 9"). The film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga and Carly Pope. It opened in theaters August 9th, 2013.

I don't mind the lesson that it tried to teach -- easy access to healthcare for all, but the plot devices they used to teach that message were stupid.

I mean in the future they've progressed healthcare to the point where if you have Leukemia, all you need to do is lay down in a tanning bed for 30 seconds, and you're cured. But in this black-and-white, rich-and-poor world, these magic tanning booths exist nowhere on earth. I mean that was the goal of the main characters: to get to Elysium and climb into one of these vita-chambers to be cured of their ills. And ultimately the only reason why these don't exist on earth is because, drumroll please, rich people are greedy and selfish. That was it. The bad guy in this movie is a rich society which won't share their stuff.

Nice artwork. This movie was average at best. Sharlto Copley and Matt Damon practically carried this movie, but Jodie Foster was terrible. Some of the side characters didn't seem interesting for me. After a while it just got too preachy. Overall an underwhelming movie.

I loved the movie. The action and humor were in the right places, the acting were great, and Kruger was scary likable.

AT FIRST I SAW THE COMERCIAL AN SAID OH IT LOOKS LIKE DISTRICT NINE..BUT WHEN I SAW THE MOVIE, MAN I LOVED IT..EVERYTHING WORKED..AND COPELY WAS AWESOME. I SEE HOW THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT HUMANOID LOOKING ROBOTS, THE ONES THEY ENED WITH IN THE FILM WERE GOOD THOUGH, VERY ROBOTIC MACHINE MECHANIZED LOOKING BUT MOVED SO FLUID, THE FX WERE SPOT ON.
