First Wave Of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Reviews Are Very Positive

The Hollywood Reporter: "A Gripping Account of Inter-Species Conflict"
"Manages to do at least three things exceptionally well that are hard enough to pull off individually: Maintain a simmering level of tension without let-up for two hours, seriously improve on a very good first entry in a franchise and produce a powerful humanistic statement using a significantly simian cast of characters. In the annals of sequels, Dawn is to Rise of the Planet of the Apes what The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars—it’s that much better" - Todd McCarthy

Variety: "A Bleak But Spectacular Sequel"
"An altogether smashing sequel to 2011′s better-than-expected “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” this vivid, violent extension of humanoid ape Caesar’s troubled quest for independence bests its predecessor in nearly every technical and conceptual department, with incoming helmer Matt Reeves conducting the proceedings with more assertive genre elan than “Rise” journeyman Rupert Wyatt." - Guy Lodge

Hit Fix: "Series Is Actually Getting Better from Film to Film"
"The script by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Mark Bomback is about what violence does to communities, so while it is indeed an action film at times, and there are some thrillingly staged sequences that director Matt Reeves has imagined, I found myself actively rooting against any action in the film simply because I cared about all the characters enough that I didn't want to see any of them, human or ape, end up in harm's way, and it's obvious from early in the film that things are not going to end well." - Drew McWeeny

Cinema Blend: "Ample Life and Innovative Storytelling"
"You still will not be prepared for the scope, intelligent vision and accomplishment (both technical and emotional) of the superior, intense, terrifying, exhilarating and altogether spectacular sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Though we are only two moves in to this reconfigured Apes franchise – and we have a long way to go before reaching the point of introduction that occurred way back in 1968 – its evident that there is ample life and innovative storytelling in the Apes series, which should pave the way for a bleak but creatively bright future." - Sean O'Connell

Screen Daily: "Less Emotionally Resonant Than Rise"
"The sequel to sci-fi franchise reboot Rise Of The Planet of the Apes is heavier on ape-vs-human action than its predecessor and lighter on the kind of intimate drama that three years ago made the reboot a surprisingly affecting late summer hit. As such, the relatively generic Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is less emotionally resonant than Rise but possibly better equipped - especially with the addition of 3D - to fill its role as a midsummer box office earner aimed particularly at the international market." - John Hazelton

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is being directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), from a screenplay written by Mark Bomback, Scott Z. Burns, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The cast includes: Andy Serkis (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Public Enemies, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Harry Potter film series), Keri Russell (The Americans, Mission Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (The Prince of Persia, Wrath of the Titans, Rock N Rolla), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (The Descendants, Three Kings, 13 Going on 30). The film climbs into theaters July 11, 2014

Awesome stuff. Rise was so good, if this is better, it'll definitely be the best film of the year. Interstellar can suck it...

This, Captain America and Mockingjay (simply because I like winter/revolution films) will be the only three I see in the actual theater this year.

I hope this film does do well, as the whole Planet of the Apes franchise is a really good bit of sci-fi and "what if?"

@dio

It's not apart of the original continuity. That continuity already had Caesar and shown the rise of the apes under different circumstances with different characters, etc. It's a reboot series in chronological order.

Don't you dare give those of us who are anticipating Interstellar a bad name . . .

It's not a prequel. The old series had a Caesar of its own and shown it's own rising of the apes and what led into the original in the 60's. That alone should tell you that it is not within the same continuity.

And Matt Reeves was one of the candidates to helm Man of Steel. Just imagine -- IMAGINE -- what he could have done with it. Gigantic sigh.
