The length of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi was finally confirmed earlier this week, and now some of the stars of the film are weighing in on the record-setting length of the film. Mark Hamill had some particularly interesting things to say about the film's length in an interview with Vanity Fair.
The Luke Skywalker actor said he was "appalled" by the 153-minute runtime when he was first told about it. However, after seeing actually seeing the film, he gave the movie's runtime his stamp of approval. Hamill said:
“The good news is I’ve seen it, and it’s like "The Godfather." It doesn’t feel that long, and I’m really cranky. I’m one of those guys where you go see, like, a big superhero movie and you go, ‘I really love it, but it’s too long!"
Hamill went on to say that he isn't a fan of the post-credits scene trend in comic book movies.
“I guess it’s ‘cause they want people to feel like they’re getting their money’s worth. But I say get it on! Get your story on, get it done, and get off! Leave them wanting more rather than going, ‘oh, gosh,’ and shifting in their seats and checking their watches.”
The Last Jedi will be the longest film in the Star Wars franchise so far, beating out Attack of the Clones by 10 minutes.
Mark Hamill has been pretty open with his thoughts on the film throughout The Last Jedi's press tour, with him previously saying that he was shocked by some of writer-director Rian Johnson's creative choices early on in production. While it is Hamill's job to help sell the movie to the public, it's also nice to see him be honest about how he really feels once in a while.
