No, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Isn't Being Lined Up To Take Over STAR WARS From Kathleen Kennedy

Apparently, there have been rumours doing the rounds in Hollywood that Kevin Feige could replace Kathleen Kennedy as the head of Lucasfilm but it appears as if that's not really the case. Read on for more.

Solo: A Star Wars Story looks set to be a major box office disappointment for Disney but is that enough to result in a change of leadership at Lucasfilm? The list of directors fired by Kathleen Kennedy over apparent creative differences continues to grow so it's feasible that she's going to take the blame for what happened with this spinoff. Before that, though, she delivered a huge string of box office hits.

Regardless, it was last week we heard that there could be a "changing of the guards" in September and a lot of names were put forward as possible replacements. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was obviously among them (especially as the current era of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies is wrapping up with Avengers 4) but the possibility of him taking charge of Lucasfilm has now been debunked.

"Feige is in a league all his own in terms of setting the tone for a franchise," notes Deadline, "after the misfire of Lucasfilm’s Han Solo movie after Kathleen Kennedy fired LEGO filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller — just the latest instance where up and coming filmmakers were replaced — there have been rumors about how long Kennedy will continue. Even as a hot rumor that Feige might take oversight on Lucasfilm fare was roundly denied." There you have it but it would be fun to see!

After all, it's easy to imagine Feige taking any franchise to the next level but it's probably best for him to remain part of the MCU moving forward as there are more stories to tell. What do you think?

Star Wars is a Marvel Comic Book only makes since for Kevin Feige to take over.

@DoubleD - Feige is only good at building from the ground up or adding set-ups early on. Not sure if he can "add more" to SW without hurting fans. Best scenario is to "full reboot", if he takes over. The original films were made to be a complete trilogy like traditional film making.

The current SW sucks because the OT didn't really leave room to "add" or "make good prequel/sequels". Each of the main character's arc was complete at the end. To make an episodic shared universe like the MCU they have to reboot star wars and give each character an episodic solo film that leads up to ROTJ

According to what example?

@TheFamousJMC - "According to what example?" His Work History.

When has a studio head ever stepped in and saved a franchise?

@mastakilla39 - "When has..." is not the point. I want to know what fact, besides that he has taken on one franchise and created a blueprint for success, proves that he couldn't save an existing one.

Look at sports.: When has a GM taken over a club and made it a champion? Silly question, right?

When has an expansion team got to the finals in its first year? Never until the LV Golden Knights in 2018.

Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't or won't.

Frank Marshall saved the Jurassic Park franchise. His wife runs Lucasfilm. She probably had a hand in saving JP. Maybe Marshall should take over Lucasfilm. Maybe Feige.

And, why can't someone else take over Marvel? They have money to burn at this point.

I respect your opinion about Feige but I don't think his track record at Marvel proves he couldn't save a franchise. He pretty much saved Spider-Man and he isn't even at SONY.

Jon Favreau is my choice to save Star Wars, and he is doing the TV show, so at least that's good news.

Just because you have money to burn doesn't mean you go all in the next without seeing your cards. Feige has expansive plans for the MCU and I'm pretty sure he wants to see the m thru, especially if the Fox merger indeed goes thru.

@LongMayHeReign - Yeah you're probably right, although I would get bored doing the same formula over and over again for twenty years.

@TheFamousJMC - I feel the formula has evolved over time and will continue to do so based on the character, Infinity War is proof of that.

@mastakilla39 - Nonsense. There is a lot of room to add/make good movies on either side of the first two trilogies. You must not be familiar with the EU; fantastic stories abound. Whether Disney would adapt them is another question, however. And the OT was only the second half of Lucas' vision; he was unable to bring his vision to life in the late 70s/early 80s due to effects limitations. Surely you realize the movies' focus is the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker?

I think Feige's a great guy who is supremely talented at what he does and has seen the MCU to unprecedented strength but stick with the MCU. Stay focused on one thing.

Besides, for me the only thing I don't care for when it comes to LucasFilm's Star Wars are their choices for the "A Star Wars Story" banner. Having Rogue One / Solo / Obi Wan / Fett as your inter-year spin off films are the complete opposite approach to what I wanted.

I love what they're doing with the sequel films though and I think the Rian Johnson trilogy and Beniof & Weiss films are going to be the unique non-saga projects that the "A Star Wars Story" films should have been from the off.

This only makes sense if Feige is looking to move on to something new... at best, it’s a lateral move for him. He’s built a brand that has averaged a global gross of a billion dollars per film since Disney started distributing them. Yeah, there’s the chance that they may struggle more once Downey and the other original Avengers actors retire from their roles, but the same seems to be true of Star Wars... without the actors from the original series, the films are much weaker. Creatively, he has his own sci-fi films to explore in the MCU. I don’t see what would be in it for him.

Feign has been a Marvel fan for decades evident by the fact that he’s worked on pretty much every Marvel project he could get his hands on before he was head of the MCU. I think nothing short of death or the property being forced from his hands will make him leave the MCU.

JJ And RIAN already went Feige-lite with Poe and his “humorous” interactions with Ren and Hux. From “who talks first” to “prank call”...I think it’s best if tony stark-ism’s stay on earth.

Feige has got to be the hottest commodity out there for leading this kind of thing. He can probably name his own price. I do not want him spread too thin and get involved in Star Wars.
