Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Possible Hints & Clues

After watching the Star Wars: the Force Awakens trailer, these are some of clues I picked up on as to where the story may be heading.

I have to admit, I have watched the second Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer at least 30 times.  There are so many things to geek out over in those 2 precious minutes that it almost feels like getting on the same roller coaster over and over again.  If the first teaser peeked people’s interest into this new series of movies, this trailer should have gotten even the most skeptical fan boy on board.  Since very little information had been released about the movies prior to the trailers release, it has not been possible to even hypothesize about where these new characters may take us.  Since it has always been hard for me to wait for Christmas, here is what I got from the trailer and where I think this group of nerf-headers may be going;

-There is another Skywalker:  In the trailer you can clearly hear Luke Skywalker say, “The force is strong in my family.  My father has it.  My sister has it.  I have it.  YOU have that power too”.  So he has to be talking to someone of his lineage, right?  Not to mention he speaks about his father in the present tense (but that could be because he is a force ghost).  It isn’t inconceivable that after 30 years all of these characters would have children (in Han’s case, maybe many) but still it is interesting that none of the characters carry their families name’s if they are related.  They have yet to release any information at all about the character Domhnall Gleeson is playing and with him looking so much like Mark Hamill I would not be surprised if he is playing his son.

Luke may be a bad guy:  When R2-D2 is shown you see a figure that is kneeled down, reach up at him with a robotic hand.  If this Luke, the skin on his hand has been removed and it doesn’t look like he cares too much.  In the prequels, Anakin fell deeper down the dark side rabbit hole each time he had to replace a body part with a mechanical one, which culminated in him becoming completely evil after his humanity was hidden behind the metal façade of Darth Vader.   So if Luke doesn’t care as much about his humanity, he may have been corrupted by the dark side too.  If he is the bad guy then odds are he is the master and he has, or is searching, for a new apprentice.  You know this shot below of all the storm troopers, standing in line in front of a red flag and figure in black?  Imagine if that was Luke standing there.

-The other bad guy may be just a fan boy:  The second black hooded character we see (who happens to have an awesome if not impractical red lightsaber) is named Kylo Ren and there have been several rumors circulating about his character.  Most mention that he is a collector who seeks out artifacts related to the events of the prior 3 films.  There is a good chance that the burnt Darth Vader mask was in fact found by him, and if you notice it is on a pedestal as if it is on display.  Even his crossguard lightsaber is rumored to have been been built from the reminants of other lightsabers.  All of this could be conjecture, but I think it would be really smart if the writers made one of the villains a character who is obsessed with memorabilia, just like the movies fan base (and it turns him evil).  It would be a very ‘meta’ thing to do and J.J. Abrams is known to gravitate towards scenes or characters that conjure nostalgia in the viewer.

-The First Order (Empire) could be out of clones:  As evident by the fact the John Boyega has been confirmed to be at least starting the movie as a storm trooper and the shot of the chrome, rather large looking storm trooper with a cape, we know that now storm troopers come in all shapes, sizes, (genders?) and colors.  What is a major step for the human resources department of the First Order is also an interesting development for this army.  No longer can they just order up more soldiers, which should even the playing field with the Resistance (former Rebels).

The First Order needs to be underground now:  In the prior 3 films the Rebels were constantly on the run from the large fleet and space stations of the Empire.  While we do get a shot of a star destroyer in space surrounded by some ships, it seems that the First Order has learned from their mistakes and now has bases on actual planets (there is also a rumor that the Resistance actually runs out of a star destroyer).  The shot of the storm troopers in precession is obviously on a cold planet of some sort and in the shot of the chrome storm trooper walking down the hall, you can see rock embedded in the wall which means the base is underground.  I guess having two huge star bases blow up with most of your army on them made an impression.

So what do you think?  Is there anything that you think the trailer gives away?
