STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Actor John Boyega Hints At A Time Jump For Next Year’s EPISODE IX

Pacific Rim: Uprising star John Boyega’s comments about his Star Wars character in a recent interview have hinted at the possibility of a time jump for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. Check it out…

The Last Jedi was something of an anomaly among Star Wars films, beginning almost moments after the close of The Force Awakens in lieu of the usual jump in time. However, following the events of Rian Johnson's film as well as the real-life passing of Carrie Fisher, many assumed that we'll have a somewhat significant time-jump for this closing chapter of the Skywalker Saga.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Finance, star John Boyega spoke about the effect that joining the sci-fi franchise has had on his life, and also dropped this little bit of information about the upcoming film:

"I can't wait to start shooting the next and final leg of the franchise. The first step is growing out my hair, so you can wait for the trailer to see why."

A change in haircut has been something a surprisingly vocal amount of Star Wars fans have wanted for Boyega's character, so they're sure to be happy. What's more, seeing Finn with longer hair is an easy way to denote the passage of time.

Whether this is the sole reason remains to be seen. Maybe the Resistance has been on the run or perhaps this indicates an added growth for the character; now allowing personality and taste to dictate his hair rather than the regimented style he's had in the series thus far.

All that is pure speculation at this point, however. We'll have to wait until 20th December 2019 to find out if a significant amount of time has passed, and what major events, if any, have occurred between movies

What do you think? Are you looking forward to a fresh new cut for Finn? How far forward would you like to see Episode IX take place? Leave your thoughts below.

Makes sense. This will definitely start after Leia's death.

@Pantherpool - I hope they open the film on Leia's funeral. There's a lot of cool establishing shots you could do from the title scroll.

@Pantherpool - But if she can survive being blown up in a spaceship, somehow survive the cold vacuum of space with no burns, scars, or broken bones, then how is she gonna die cuz it's obvious that she can't be killed.

the first thing I thought immediately after the ending to The Last Jedi and the way it ended, was that there has to be significant time jump for the last installment.

Jump ahead a few years, to see a trained Rey take on Kylo again. Considering he got his ass kicked when she did not even know what she was doing, don’t like his chances,

Oh I do hope Rose returns with another integral line like the last one. I can't imagine the series continuing without fully fleshing out her character as a fundamental part in Finn's journey............................................

@Tony93 - Rose should just randomly die within the first few minutes.

Perhaps they should go back in time instead of forward. Use that time dimension/portal thing they showed in Rebels and go back and start fresh erasing the events of TLJ.

@Philvis - That would be epic, but Disney seems to be too cowardly to do something that would actually save the franchise.

I'd actually, thought they would likely do a fast-forward for the third movie: The kids inspired by the Rebellion would be grown and ready to join, and it would explain the death (by old age) of Leia.
