SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS: Get Ready To Rumble With The Latest TV Spot For The Movie

Marvel Studios has released another TV spot for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and as well as showing the title hero entering the cage, we get to see him unleashing the power of the Ten Rings.

Following Monday's world premiere, fan screenings of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are taking place this evening (were you among those lucky enough to nab a ticket?). With the box office struggling thanks to a surge in COVID-19 cases, Marvel Studios is clearly looking to build as much positive buzz as possible, which you really can't blame them for.

At this point in the marketing campaign, TV spots do begin to get increasingly spoilery, though this one mostly just expands on scenes we've seen in the previous sneak peeks.

Shang-Chi enters that mysterious tournament and later wields the Ten Rings in what looks set to be an epic battle with his father, Wenwu. Beyond that, there aren't too many reveals here, and we're sure this latest preview will help you get even more excited for what's to come next month.

Many critics have already said that the trailers don't do this one justice, so something tells us Marvel Studios is being really careful to hold back the biggest, craziest sequences.

Check out this latest Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings TV spot below:

"Marvel Studios' 'Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings' stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization," reads a brief synopsis shared by Marvel Studios a couple of months ago.

The movie also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by David Callahan, Destin Daniel Cretton, and Andrew Lanham the movie is currently set to be released exclusively in theaters on September 3, 2021.

Now we know Shang-Chi isn't facing the Abomination. Which is a good because the Abomination is a little out of his league.

Movie's looking great so far.

@DoubleD - I don’t comment on here often but I gotta say, I love how much you love the Hulk. Because I’m the same way. Can’t wait for Abomination to show up in She-Hulk!

@thelastson18 - The Hulk will and must be the only character that will be in all of Marvel Studios phases. Even if Mark Ruffalo gets to old to play him.

@DoubleD - can you imagine a Hulk: The End adaptation in the future once Ruffalo gets old enough? That would be amazing. But of course, Hulk will always come back.

Saw it yesterday, really strong family drama with plenty of charm and a really spectacular finale. A genuine triumph for Marvel Studios.

There aren't very many real surprises, but the trailers really didn't do this one justice, the fights are awesome - especially the bus fight - and the finale is literally like nothing we've seen in the MCU thus far.

@KingPatel

The common theme I’m seeing is the trailers don’t do the movie justice, and that makes me happy.

Wasn’t super hyped from the trailers but this sounds really good.

@regularmovieguy - I'm grateful the trailers didn't spoil the ending because I was truly surprised for once, but the movie the trailers are selling is not what this film is. It's a lot more emotional and honestly, it's as much Wenwu's movie as it is Shang's.

The Black Panther comparisons are inevitable, but it's not like that film at all, its tone is way more in line with the first Thor. The humor is pretty toned down in comparison to other MCU entries, but there's a lot of heart. All of the characters are really well written and acted.

@KingPatel - How is Simu Liu in the role as Shang Chi?

@KingPatel - it’s great to hear that the ill placed humour that has crept into the MCU has been toned down, it means this movie now has half a chance of being awesome!

@GeneralZod - He's great, especially in the fight scenes. Very likable. Does get a little overshadowed here and there, but he steps up in a big way in the third act.

The main appeal for me was the Mandarin... how is he handled? Does the performance hold a candle in terms of him as a villain to Ben Kingsley's portrayal of the concept of the Mandarin?

@KingPatel - Your honest review, as always, is what is compelling me now to definitely avoid all spoilers and wait to see it on my own.

Thanks for the short but accurate review!

@KingPatel - "It's a lot more emotional and honestly, it's as much Wenwu's movie as it is Shang's" I was not expecting that at all.

And just like that I am more hyped to enjoy and see this. :D

@Scarilian - It's hard to say too much about him without giving stuff away, but I thought Tony Leung gave the film's best performance. He's extremely charming but also very threatening, conveys a lot of emotion without saying too much. Nothing like Kingsley's portrayal, outside of his reputation, nor is he that similar to the comics version. The whole movie is essentially about love and grief and how it can drive you in different directions, so in that sense, he's stellar. If you're looking for a comic-accurate version, then he's probably not it, more an amalgamation of a few different characters, but in the context of the events in the film, he's extremely effective. Walked away thoroughly impressed with Leung.

Note, hope I'm not spoiling anything, but Kingsley has a bigger role in the film than marketing would suggest.

@NinnesMBC - Thanks man, always appreciate it. I'll have a full review out Monday when the embargo lifts, spoiler-free!

Went in not expecting much, but walked out really enjoying those characters and overarching themes of love, family, and culture. The story is pretty straightforward, and the trailers have shown enough where you'll be able to piece things together as you go, but thankfully, they haven't really shown the full fights or the ending. The trailers make it seem way more generic than it actually is, so hopefully this early positive buzz will help it do well at the box office.

Wasn't expecting it either, but Tony Leung and Fala Chen as Shang-Chi's parents steal every scene they're in, they're absolutely magnetic. Wenwu is arguably the most interesting character in the movie, one of the most impressive actors we've seen in the MCU thus far.

Guys im getting worried about this movie. I knew it was gonna struggle but ive been checking the seats at my theater since ive invited some more people to go and so far theres only 7 seats taken and 4 of them are mine. For context I always go to the same theater and roughly the same time on premiere day on Thursday and I've NEVER seen it stay this way.

Black Widow at least had large pockets filled in the first few days, but I got my tickets the day they went up and its been the same since and that is very unusual for an opening night of an MCU movie in my area.

@Ha1frican - I am really wondering if we are seeing the beginning of the end of the big screen. I think people have gotten used to (i) not going to the movies and (ii) waiting for it to come on at home, or on their cell phone. The Covid explanation only goes so far.
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 8/18/2021, 1:48 PM
@GeneralZod - Idk about the end but the end as we know it I think is almost certain. I think 10 years from now seeing movies in a theater will be sort of similar to those Fathom events showings where its something that more a niche thing for people who want the theater experience or for big releases like Avengers or Star Wars but everyone else just streams it. As much as it pains me to say it its very similar to Music at this point. People have gotten so accustomed to the convenience of music streaming (myself included) that it seems pretty dumb t0 purchase music. Id imagine for most people movies arent as important as they are to people like us to ever warrant spending $13 a ticket to go to a theater when they are used to paying $8 a month for thousands just isnt worth it
Scarilian
Scarilian - 8/18/2021, 4:03 PM
@GeneralZod -
Shang Chi had a lot less interest than Black Widow in regards to trailers and teasers. I think that is a contributing factor. In addition finances are a big concern for people right now along with everything else.

I really think a lot of people just ignore that many naturally left the MCU after Endgame/Spider-man: FFH. The thing that may get them re-interested in the MCU is Spider-man: NWH and the multiverse concept providing nostalgia.

With Shang Chi out on Disney+ in 45 days after release, people won't see it in Cinema because it's such a short window to wait - especially for something that simply does not have the hype according to google trends.
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 8/18/2021, 6:43 PM
@Ha1frican - at the end of the day, Disney would much rather have exclusive release on D+ and collect all that revenue, rather than sharing it with the movie houses. It sucks big time, but Covid (not the disease, but the societal shift) + VOD caused this.

I’ve been hearing that box office projections for this have increased a lot, so it definitely leaves me wondering what would have been if trailers did do it justice- after all, marketing is a huge piece. But maybe those trailers will come later.

I had the chance to see Shang Chiin in IMAX tonight at a free early screening. NO SPOILERS... the movie is for sure worth the trip to the movie theater! The visuals and FX are all amazing. Also, the action and fight choreography were awesome! The movie does a great job of doing d deep dive into Asian culture and does a great job in peeling back a new corner of the MCU that will bring us some really good stuff in the future! There are a couple of surprise cameos I enjoyed and 2 end credit scenes that do a great job of pushing us further in where the MCU is taking us. The movie also has a great use of music and Aquafina was a real crowd pleaser. The only small complaint is that it felt just a bit long, but I honestly can't think of any "filler" that was not necessary to the story. I highly suggest going to see this in theaters!!
