Alex Kurtzman Teases VENOM; "You Can Do Things That You Can't With SPIDER-MAN"

Despite the fact that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci's screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was not well received by a lot of critics and fans, the former is still attached to helm Venom (which has been rumoured to be called Venom/Carnage) for Sony Pictures. There's currently no firm word on any sort of release date, leading many to believe that the spin-off - which has been rumoured for a number of years - will never happen. Regardless, when MTV News caught up with Kurtzman to ask about the project recently, he said: "The idea is that you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man. Venom is the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker character." Interestingly, he actually believes that Sony have a head start on Marvel and their Cinematice Universe because of the franchise's history. "You know, Spider-Man has the benefit of having so many more movies than even some of the movies that have 2′s and 3′s in front of them from Marvel." His advice for whoever works on The Amazing Spider-Man 3? "I think as long as it keeps staying true to character, and true to who Peter is, and putting him in interesting and complicated situations, it’ll survive.
