SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME's Digital Release Date Moved Up Following Online Leak

Following a significant online leak, Spider-Man: No Way Home — which was originally scheduled to release digitally on March 22 — will now arrive on V.O.D. a week earlier than planned on March 15.

It's been three months since Spider-Man: No Way Home arrived in theaters and consequently broke box-office records while also becoming an instant audience-favorite. Ever since then, fans have been eagerly anticipating the home-media release of Spidey's third MCU-set adventure so they can comb through every second of it for Easter eggs and nods. Well, those anticipating No Way Home's digital arrival won't have to wait quite as long as they initially thought.

The film was originally slated to be released digitally on March 22 and physically on April 12, but it's now been revealed that No Way Home will be hitting digital platforms (such as Vudu, iTunes and Google Play) on March 15 following an update to listings on digital platforms. So far, the physical release date appears to be the same as before.

Unfortunately, this move comes under distressing circumstances for Sony and Marvel Studios. Earlier this week, a Blu-ray-quality copy of the film made its way onto a pirate site. The leak appears to be what prompted Sony to move the film's release date up. According to TorrentFreak (via CBR.com), P2P site group EVO — a site that has pirated other high-profile productions — took responsibility for the leak. As CBR further reported, there are supposed Blu-ray copies of the movie available for sale on eBay.

This is another instance of No Way Home being affected by online leaks, which plagued the film throughout the two years leading up to its release. While many were treated as rumors at the time, most turned out to be true.

Talking to Fandango last year, longtime Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal was asked if the threequel had been the most challenging movie to keep secret, to which she replied: "Boy, you could probably answer that question. You know. Yes, we've been [...] We don't want to spoil things for [people.] That's one of the problems with movies is that people know everything before they walk into the theater. So, we've been trying to make sure people get the full theatrical experience when they go to the movie. And yeah, you try to never confirm anything in any movie, but this one is a big one."

No Way Home will be arriving digitally on March 15, 2022. Its 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release will follow on April 12, 2022.

What do you think about the movie's digital release being moved up? Let us know in the comments.

Not changing the Blu-ray and DVD release date will hurt those sales a lot imo. Dumb.
BTW the movie is still pulling in $5-6 million in the US per week. Amazing.

@JDL - I don’t really see how. People who pirate movies aren’t people who go out and buy Blu-ray’s anyway, and anyone still buying Blu-ray’s is doing so for the collection aspect and doesn’t care about getting a torrented digital copy of a movie. If anything it’d cut into sales on digital platforms bc it’s essentially the same thing

@Ha1frican - I agree about the digital platforms 100%. But they only have to make a move that amounts to being a week sooner and 4 days from now. The chances for serious loss aren't too bad.

But DVD's are imo another matter. First off some people will indeed DL and then buy later quite possibly on the used market. The more eagerly anticipated whatever it is the more likely that will happen. Further the longer the wait the more likely that it is pirated and 4 weeks is way too damn much. As always YMMV.

I should add without being specific that shows and movies like this hit absolutely safe parts of the internet within 24 hours of their release. So risky torrent sites are easily avoided.

Man Sony’s movie division really can’t keep anything from leaking can it? Lol I’m waiting for Morbius to leak, no way I’m watching that in a theater

And once again, piracy benefits the masses.

I used to pirate everything, now I rarely do. Having fun with your 2gb pos low bit rate movie, I'll wait for the 4k steelbook. Bunch of losers

I'm totally for saving big reveals and surprises for the theater experience... but Tobey and Andrew don't show up at epic moments that needed to be surprises... they literally casually walk through a portal into Ned's Nanas dinning room... did we really need to keep them a secret? If that was the "reveal" they were going with in the movie, they might as well have advertised Tobey and Andrew being in this from the start, maybe even given them bigger roles, and not made this whole thing a secret and just made a better movie and had Tobey and Andrew in the marketing.

To me it's just like Justice League, why hide Superman from the marketing like he's not in the film when we all pretty much knew going in and the reveal of him being in the film isn't exactly handled as a big reveal. Might as well just had him in the marketing and posters and covers from the start.

What type of lowlife would pirate it?

Anyway. If anyone needs me, I'll be busy for around the next 3 hrs

@BigPhilbowski - I've already paid to see it twice in theaters. That's the price of a DVD. I don't mind watching pirate copies after I've paid for it already.

@ElricReturns - my girlfriend pre ordered the Blu ray back on my birthday. So I don't mind pirating as well given how I technically already own it.

If someone paid to watch it twice in theaters and have already pre-ordered the Blu Ray are they entitled to download the pirate copy? Just asking for a friend.

Honestly this doesn't change anything with me, I was still going to buy the Blu-Ray for those extended scenes/special features.

@movienerd84 - Bc no one cares enough about that movie to make it lucrative enough to potentially risk your job leaking stuff about it lol
