I am all for character progression, but Peter Parker's charm and endearing quality is he does what he does and sacrifices a lot even a good life to do so, if you have his life in balance then I guess there is a chance we lose relatablity somewhat.

Gotta ask: is any of the new Marvel titles worth reading after the recent Secret Wars event? I stopped reading comics just before they kicked off the event due to lack of time and now that I have time again, I'm a bit hesitant about jumping back in because everything seems to have changed quite a bit (and from what I've seen in various previews not for the better - especially the new status quo for Spider-Man/Peter Parker seems a bit meh to me)

My problem with this entire new MU is how fast all these changes have been made. Now obviously I can't know everything about every character that ever happened, but the sudden change to the MU is really hard to accept.
Of course some stories are going to be great and some are going to feces, but I think what a lot of people have a hard time accepting is the fact that basically the entire MU, the one that they had come to love over many years, was just destroyed and reanimated into what it is now.
My primary love of the MU comes in the cosmic characters and the relatively obscure one's, and with this new universe it seems as if they have all just been deleted with one large story line.
That is just my opinion, but unless a story comes along with my favorite character/characters or something cosmic, I can't see myself picking up any of what they are trying to push.
Again, just my opinion.

I like Peter/Johnny horseplay, but everything about this feels wrong. Peter as (yet another) inventor/industrialist/superhero I can probably live with, but JJJ on TV?!

Maybe I'll pick up a trade or something when there is an arc or two to judge it by.

@Bl00dwerK Yeah it really sucks that the X-Men are getting pushed aside like that. While I also dont like that the original X-Men STILL haven´t returned to their time I really look forward to the book.

I agree with BW and WS, I also cant wait for the new Uncanny Avengers and Ultimates books just based on their cast alone.

I agree with everything you said about the X-Men. I'll be checking out invincible Iron Man and Thor, and that's pretty much it for the moment. In Thor's case however, I hope Aaron doesn't drag the original sin reveal any longer. Also, I hope Odinson ends up in a good book.

@Xenomorph I've been enjoying what Marvel is doing so far after Secret Wars. ASME has been pretty good. New Avengers isn't bad, and I like how Ultimate Reed Richards wants to discover all of the previous universes and what has survived. It's pretty clear what Marvel is doing, and that's giving new younger characters, and the young characters that have been around for ages, a push.

When Disney bought Marvel I hoped they would clean house and put real talent in charge of Marvel Comics. Instead they've been hands off and Marvel Comics seemed to decide they could do anything because they parent company didn't give a f ck. But Marvel is following Disney's lead on hiring foreign workers. Marvel Comics hires poor foreigners who scrawl more than draw so they can pay them less.

And not one publisher is stepping up to take Marvel down by producing better comics. That surprises me. That lack of competition also keeps pressure off of Marvel to actually produce great comics. DC Comics has imploded into chaos. Image is not capitalizing on current hit comics and McFarlane continues to let Spawn comics rot away.

The comics industry has went to hell with Marvel leading the way.

@PatW I'm sorry, but I don't think you understand All-New All-Different...
The old Marvel Universe DOES still exist, and the whole cosmic side of the universe is still very much intact (in fact, they are dedicating more comics to that area of the MU than pre-Secret Wars)

@jimoakley666 you mean the "presenting something to a huge crowd" pose that is in no way a "Tony Stark presenting the Jericho Missile" pose because it's actually a rather generic pose?

@Bl00dwerK @Demiurge the X-Men ARE NOT being pushed aside at all...
It's a new story arc, the X-Men can't always simply be "Humans hate us" which hasn't really made sense in the MU in a long time
So now, Marvel has introduced a new threat for mutantkind to have to fight against, which is perfectly reasonable. If you aren't willing to allow the story to evolve and try new things like that, and genuinely believe that will be enough to "ruin the book" for you, how much of a fan are you really?

@GodzillaKart you are aware that "all these characters from the new Marvel universe" are the old ones right? New status quo and new stories, yes, but still the same people...

@BboiBlack
1) I assume you are joking to some degree, considering both those things have happened...
2) Just because a change like this happens doesn't mean its a gimmick, it's a way to push the story forward. Yeah, if they go "done, now drop that aspect" straight away, then yeah, it will amount to nothing more, but that doesn't seem to be the case with ASM, so how about you wait before you pass judgement?

@Spock0Clock I have been reading, and so far it has been really good, as long as you are a fan of Slott's work beforehand
If you didn't like Superior, or his run on Amazing before all this, I'm not so sure you will like it. And also, whilst true, it isn't Jameson's first time going into TV throughout the various Marvel universes :P

And before anyone accuses me off being some "new guy who has just started reading comics and that is why I am defending them", I have been reading comics for several years, both Marvel, DC and Independent. Sure, I haven't been around since the Golden Age, but I have still been reading long enough to be considered a fan, and I can tell you now that just because Marvel is changing things up doesn't mean it is bad and that they have gone to shit.
And also, of course Marvel is going to change things up to bring a new fanbase on board - the old one won't be around forever, and if they keep telling the exact some stuff year in, year out for decades, eventually it will all stop selling and then Marvel Comics does actually go kaput. You need to consider this from a business perspective as well

I second everything you said. I began reading comics (translated in French) when I was a kid in the late 80s and I keep reading them now (in English). I'm happy to see the characters evolve. It is painful to have the same stories rehashed year after year. Status quo must not be forever. If something never changes, it usually means it's dead.

Was impressed by the first issue and turned off by the second. I'll let the third issue decide if I keep reading. Zodiac make for terrible Spidey villains though.

I'm ok with this as an aside, a very temporary reversal of fortunes type thing, or an alternate universe, timeline thing. I haven't been reading it so I'm hoping the writers are intentionally alluding to and drawing connections between Spidey and Ironman (between MJ being in IM comics and Spidey obviously imitating early IM with the Spidey is my bodyguard and rich, funny, genius playboy superhero stuff) and building to something with the two. Not just ripping off IM for some sort of marketing, unoriginal reason. Like, 'IM is really popular right now, and Spidey has always been popular, what would happen if we smacked them together? It would be super popular right?'

Well this should be good. I would think if anyone moved into the building at least Parker wouldn't piss Johnny off. Guess I was wrong. Though I'm sure along with whatever secret labs he's kept of Reed's there's still a place for Johnny and ben (if he comes back to Earth that is).

Man as a nerd and a teacher, Parker was the hero I most related to. I always thought if parker could teach high school and save lives maybe I could too lol. Because honestly teaching is the hardest job i've ever done so having him not only do it and well but kick ass was inspirational. That said I guess Parker industries may be a cool change. Lets see.

Peter Stark is a stupid concept. The essence of Spider-Man is gone. I'd rather read "Superior Spider-Man" with its limited premise.

Marvel,

Get creative with stories and the characters being themselves. I'm sure your Convergence is coming!

I might not be that excited about the inhuman angle, but I plan to read those books. @Bl00dwerK said as much and I agree with him/her. Having concerns doesn't mean you're not a big fan. Why else would we have stuck with it through thick and thin ? There is such a thing as nuance, even on the internet.
