Drake Bell Says ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Animated Series Is "True To The Comics"

Drake Bell, voice of Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man, discusses the faithfulness of the upcoming animated series and reveals his interest in suiting up in a live action comic book movie role at some point.

"It’s awesome. The animation is unbelievable. It’s 2-D but it’s the coolest 2-D animation you’ve ever seen," the actor told MTV News while discussing his role as Peter Parker in the 2012 animated series, Ultimate Spider-Man. "It's going to be really true [to the comics]," he revealed. "There’s tons of different [versions of Spider-Man]. He’s in high school. He doesn’t have, the webs don’t come out of his arms. He’s a science nerd, so he figured out how to make sticky web substance and they’re called web shooters. So it’s more like the 'Ultimate Spider-Man' comic book than the Tobey Maguire [movie] or the new 'Amazing Spider-Man' or anything like that." Huh, guess no one told him that Andrew Garfield's live action take on the iconic Marvel character WILL include web shooters!

Regardless, Drake then went on say that while he's enjoyed his time voicing the animated version of Spider-Man, his role in comedy Superhero Movie gave him a taste of what it would be like to play a superhero on the big screen in live action. "I love comic books. I love superheroes. I did ‘Superhero Movie’ years ago... it’s fun. I would love to do that again in a serious role that was all slap stick comedy." Would you like to see the actor take on a "serious" superhero role? Sound off with your thoughts below.

I have tried to give this guy a break and sit though his more than one projects after his nickelodeon work.

He is garbage threw and threw. He couldn't act his way out of stuff that's easy to act out of!

He needs to show and prove that he can act first. I would want to watch him in anything.

But more than likely his voice acting probably isn't that bad or at least I would hope it isn't.

In terms of seeing him tackle other comic roles, I actually fancasted him as Speed of the Young Avengers if they were in a JLU-style show.

i want Josh Keaton instead.

@grif The Spectacular Spider-man used alot of ultimate stories and it is the best animated Spider-man series of all time imo.

Ok ouch. I happen to hate the ultimate universe.

Why Marvel?

After all I've done for you?

So yeah meh. Not saying that I'll hate the series... yet. But there is a good chance of it. I need a new preview/trailer.

i think he gets too much crap for being a nickelodeon star, he actually had a really good face and manner to be a really good young hero, both voice and acting role

Ultimate Spider-man will probably be the one of best comicbook cartoon when it comes on. Paul Dini, is writing for this show and Paul Dini is a great writer. To be honest, the animation on this show looks better then young justice animation.

Does anyone else see that the thumbnail pic for this news is also being used for the Amazing Spider-Man news? Lol. :P

Anyhoo, I'll hold my judgement for this new Spider-Man animated series when it comes out. I really wish that they kept Josh Keaton, though. Not Drake Bell. Also, The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series was the BEST Spidey animated show. Too bad they frigging cancelled it. . Oh well.

Stay EPIC, my friends!

@deathmetalbrian, Yeah. What kind of idiot makes a mistake when referring to comicbooks? (sarcasm)

Give the guy a break. He was probably given USM to read, and he's noting the difference between the cartoon and the version most people know from the movies. And, for a time, Peter got organic webs in ASM, so if he was speaking about the ASM comics, maybe he was talking about that.

Actually most fans hated the OTHER comics in Ultimate Marvel universe. Spidey had some of his best banter and complex scenarios in his ultimate comics. However other than maybe ultimate x-men the other ultimate coimcs sucked

@MrEko Totally with you. Ultimate Spiderman got me back into comics it was, for a time, the best comic on the rack.

It's always fun to see a re-imagining of something you love. Some people can't do it, they fear change.

One of my all-time favorite moments in comics was when Ultimate Cable popped his claws and revealed he was Wolvie, blew my mind. lol.

I'm not one to bash on anyone's work, nor am I going to now, however a voice over from Bell would probably be satisfactory. But a live-action (again no offense to the guy) probably wouldn't be as good.
He was pretty funny in the Amanda show. Ha!!!

Im sad Spectacular spidey cartoon had to get cancelled. If Ultimate spidey is HALF the show spectacular was itll be good. I loved spidey Ultimate comics. and @MrEko I read multiple Ultimate comics. Ultimate spidey xmen Hulk F4...ect.
But I thought other than Spiderman and X-men the Ultimates never captured the full extent of the charectors.
FightmasterNoel
FightmasterNoel - 12/8/2011, 9:25 PM
By that i mean they werent as complex or sometimes too complex for that specific charector,Ultimate Fantastic wasnt too bad i guess but still other than spidey and x-men i didnt feel it.

I loved my Ultimate Marvel Universe. I thought it was incredibly diverse and entertaining. I'm talking the Ultimates Volumes 1 & 2, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate X-Men, and of course, Ultimate Spider-Man.

But when the Ultimatum story arc began turning its head, the entire universe began to really really suck. Storylines were not near as interesting and everything just felt contrived without meaning. The only thing that was still likable in my opinion was the Ultimate Spider-Man comic, but then Bendis decided to bring 'diversity' and kill off Peter Parker replacing him with a Black-Hispanic.

So I decided to be more 'diverse' myself, and seek entertainment elsewhere.

Being a Marvel fan, the cool thing used to be the Ultimate Universe, but now it's like a washed up dirty pair of jeans that should just get thrown away.

If i had to be honest i probly read more DC comics than marvel, but like i said ima fan of comics in general.

danyu - 12/8/2011, 9:48 PM
Oh, I've been reading the DC reboot lately and so far, I think it owns. Justice League so far has been incredible, not to mention characters like Nightwing and Catwoman. Their standalone stories has been gripping.

As of right now, DC is more interesting to me, but I don't know I love the idea of the upcoming 'Avengers vs X-Men' so that might make me spend more money on Marvel all over again.
danyu
danyu - 12/8/2011, 9:50 PM
I usually don't branch outside of comic book mainstream. (DC and Marvel) I'm just such a superhero sucker. Though sometimes I read stuff from Dark Horse that has Joss Whedon stuff like Buffy and/or Angel.
FightmasterNoel
FightmasterNoel - 12/8/2011, 9:55 PM
YEAH! Nightwing is my fav hero since his beginings. And his latest comics have been totally boss! And avengers versus x-men will be EPIC! but i prefer the recent dc stories especialy now with the flops of ultimate unisverse and Avengers coming to a not so good status.
