The Amazing Spider-Man: More than likely the X-Men: First Class of 2012, although the clip of Spidey and the thug is pretty bad as far as the acting goes. But let's rewind back to the very begining, the announcement.

Announcement

When it was first announced that they cancelled Spider-Man 4 and they were gonna reboot it, I'll admit to the fact that I cried. I loved the trilogy and never wanted it to be remade. Although after hearing what they were gonna do with it for Spider-Man 4, I became pretty glad that their rebooting it. The idea I hated most was completely changing the Felicia Hardy character, I mean the Vultress? C'mon, really?!?!? Keeping her as Black Cat could've been gold on screen.

Choosing the writer and director: I'll admit that I had never heard of of Marc Webb up until he was announced as director. I watched 500 Days of Summer and I became convinced that he is a damn good director though even after watching the trailers for the new Spidey film, I'm not entirely convinced that he is made to be an action director and as far as the writer goes. I was stoked when I found out that James Vanderbilt was gonna pen the script, I was so excited because I love his writing for Zodiac but as I mentioned the one clip before, I am not happy with how it was acted, although I feel part of the blame can go to Vanderbilt for how it was written.

Casting

I'll admit that I've never seen a movie that has Andrew Garfield in it, so I really can only judge by the trailers on his acting ability. He sounds the part but doesn't look it. So I'm kinda skeptical about him, I got really excited when I found out actors and actresses like Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field were gonna be in the field (Sally Field, holy shit!! How can you get a bad performance or movie that involves her.) Also, Denis Leary. Can't go wrong.

Character backround and look changes

Lets start with The Lizard. I'm in the middle for how he looks for the film, I like it because they tried basing it off of the Steve Ditko look and I give them credit for that but I don't like it because in a way it just looks bad. By that I mean it's not as animalistic I feel it should be. I also feel (judging by the trailers) that the character is a mix from the original comics and the ultimate comics. Which I'm not a fan of that, I perfer staying to how the character originally is but CBM's lately are trying to update and stay with the audience so therefore their basing it off of the Ultimate comics. It makes for a semi-deeper story. I also am not a big fan of how Peter is for this film but again it's them trying to stay with the auidence, I kinda like the new suit and I like they tried bringing in his humor but back to that clip, it's pretty bad. Although in the trailer, him being a smartass worked well.

Recent news: I do like that their changing the origin a bit because it keeps it fresh and we're not saying the same old thing that we saw 10 years ago. I think this is something half of the fans like but ah well. I think it's a very smart move so therefore the audience isn't bored.

Final thoughts

Overall this films deserves a chance though I don't think it's gonna be the best Spider-Man film yet despite that their using my favorite comicbook villain as the films bad guy. I think of done right the sequel can go toe to toe with Spider-Man 2. Maybe Gwen Stacey saga, anyone? Despite the fact that alot of us, including yours truely are pretty much in the middle and kinda wanna see this but at the same time are skeptical. Between the director, the good cast of actors and whom the writer is, this film has potential to be alot better than Spidey 3 but nothing compared to the first two, but has a better chance at being better than the original than the second. Either way, when July comes you can be damn sure I'm gonna be in line and in the theater watching this film and expect a review like from everyone else here.

What are your thoughts about the new Spider-Man movie between what we've seen and heard about the film? Comment below and if you want like I did in the article. Name your favorite comicbook villain.

I've been excited for this film ever since I saw my first Andrew Garfield film. I didn't think the scene with the thug had bad acting, I thought it was just fine. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Andrew Garfield isn't by any means a bad actor. He's actually a very good actor. He has a fairly small resume compared to others, but in such a short acting career, it's an impressive resume. He's also been doing Broadway in Death of a Salesman recently w/ Phillip Seymour Hoffman. A lot of reviews say he stands toe to toe with him, some even saying he steals the show. So I'm definitely not worried about his performance, not too much at least. But I really hope this is the best Spider-man film, for me at least.

Not to mention his golden globe nomination for social network, and he performed well in that other clip with the door man. Very natural flow to his words

But I do see your concerns about his acting, when he says " it's so simple" that was bad line delivery I guess. But his other clip with the doorman was IMO a great scene displaying peters acting ability and his accent was gone and you couldn't tell he was English which was also a nice touch

@Spidey- See I personally thought "it's so simple" was perfect line delivery, lol. It sounded very natural and cocky to me, although I guess it is all subjective. Lol !

I also liked how he said "that was cool!" after he said "oh so simple". Very teenager like.

Good write up GhostRiderfan1!

I'm on the fence about this film. Some stuff I like and some I don't.

My favorite villain? Heh. Not a favorite but I will list my favorites.

I'm only listing my favorite Spider-man villains (because if I listed all of my favorite ones in the whole Marvel Universe this comment would be pages long :) ):
Green Goblin
Venom
Sandman
Electro
Shocker
Carnage
Doctor Octopus
Vulture
Kraven

I'm sure there are more I could add but I can't think of any more than that... so lets just stop there shall we? :)

@Mayo23: I hope it's the best Spider-Man but I just feel it's gonna be near impossible to make a Spider-Man movie that'll be better than Spider-Man 2.

@superotherside: Thank you and I feel the same way about the movie that was stated in the article. Also I like your villian picks. I like Carnage the most ouf of that list, but again as stated in the article The Lizard is my favorite comicbook villain out of all the villains from all the companies. To me he's like a half villain. He was basically two characters, Dr.Connors is a good man and wants to help the world and he's Spider-Man and Peter's ally while The Lizard wants to make the world of nothing but reptiles again and he's one of Spider-Man's deadliest enemies. The trailer for this movie doesn't make him at least 75% percent of what the character is though I hope I'm wrong about The Lizard for the movie and although I would understand why they would take out the rule the world of reptiles thing, though it looks like they kept that too.

Ah well we won't find out until July 3rd. :)

Good write up. Happy to see you're giving it a shot.

Personally, I felt that the clips released in the Kellogs promo were just fine. But, that's strictly under the assumption that they were cropped awkwardly for promotional purposes. It wasn't a full blown trailer reveal, so less care was given to the editing by the marketing division I imagine.

As for the acting, I think it'll be great in the final product. Not only is Andrew a great actor, he's an avid fan of the character. So I think he'll deliver, even though the trailers and clips don't have everyone convinced. I could be wrong though. Hopefully not.

@ Ghostriderfan1 Considering my feelings towards the Raimi films, I don't think it'll be impossible to make a film better than SM2. The films were enjoyable to watch when I was younger but for awhile now it's almost unbearable to get through an entire film. I never liked Tobey and I feel the campy tone has for better or worse an effect on how they stand the test of time, or it's just personal preference. Now as for the action sequences, that could go either way. I'm not convinced, but pretty damn confident that the acting and emotional aspect of the film will be better though. I know that's preference as well but I've liked everything I've seen so much more. And of course, I love the choice of actors. So yeah, at least now those who loved the Raimi films and aren't liking this reboot can understand how those who didn't necessarily love the Raimi films felt. I am content.
