Hello Everyone,

I am a huge fan of the character of Spider-Man, the original Peter Parker that is! His origins to me are darkly unique, it represents more of a science fiction feel than real life. A man bitten by a radioactive spider gains strength and an intense amount of power. Such an element which is remarkable to think of. Yes the formula has been replicated into films including the on going Amazing Spider-Man series. In my opinion it is not what Spider-Man should be translated as. To me I see him more as a tragic character with a curse, not as a hero wanting to fight crime but as a anti hero in vein of others. That is why I believe a Spider-Man film should be made into a dark and scary horror movie. The element works perfectly in comics but when it comes to a live action form it should be different. It has also been proven to work in comics such as Marvel Zombies.

I am not trying to say he should slowly turn into a spider after he was bitten, well give him a more spider like form. Make it something like a half human and half spider appearance. Sort of like The Hulk. When he gets out of control his blood pressure rises and he turns into this ugly spider monster. It has been done before so why not make it the basis of a live action film. Lets face it any kind of radioactivity would surely screw around with your system either transferred from the air to sky. In reality it would suck. So show the true reality in a more science fictional way. His character needs to go through more intense dramatic phases. He needs to be separated far from society not with them. There has been many dark horror superhero films, mainly Sam Raimi's film Darkman set an example towards the trend. Peter Parker should no longer be himself but another version of him he doesn't want to be. They need to set that kind of the story in the beginning. I think a Spider-Man film could work with a hard R Rating. Mainly to show true terror and fear. Mainly to capitalize on a true form of spider instincts in heavy blood and gore attacks. Instead of a robber that killed Uncle Ben, it should be Peter Parker himself. "In a a violent spider like rage Peter kills Uncle Ben and then feasts on him like a spider devouring his prey". Spider-Man was not meant to be a character for everyone. I think this will be a better translation to this generation.

There doesn't need to be a villain, the villain could simply be himself in the whole entire film. Asides from that Venom would work for the film. In my opinion a villain should equally match the main character. Possibly have a character similar to Horror icon Jason. Or even Aunt May could be the villain. Aunt May could be possessed by an evil demon and now has crazy demonic powers. It has been done in the comics before so why not in a movie. Now that is a clever dark horror twist. Mary Jane could a villain too or another person that has been bitten by a radioactive animal. There is so many ways to work around with a dark horror Spider-Man film other than the usually friendly superhero root. There is more ideas that can be implemented while not being limited.

Here is the main basis how this will work: "Peter Parker is not your average person, nor does he feel human at all. He is a trouble maker and an outcast. He abandoned most of his friends and now is living on the edge as a drug user. He feels gay in a sense of loneliness. His own Aunt May and Uncle Ben is slowly dying but he refuses to help them. He has grown into be a cold terrifying man. One day while doing dope in a back alley he is robbed at knife point by a menacing man in a mask. The man in the mask soon runs after robbing Peter Parker of two bucks. Peter chases the robber immediately after him through the streets until they reach a building called Oscorp. The robber pushes his way through a group of people and makes his way inside with Peter still on his tail. The robber than enters a secret room marked with a radioactive symbol . Peter follows into the room and the robber trips him down on the ground. The robber then grabs his knife and stabs Peter Parker in the heart then makes his way out. Peter is now on the floor helpless and bleeding, he thinks about what a better life he could have had if he was different. Now Peter is slowly dying himself and help has not come yet. Then suddenly a red spider appears from the ceiling. It slowly crawls down on a web and makes his way towards Peter Parker. The spider then bites Peter Parker. Peter suddenly passes out and wakes up moments later in a hospital. His eyes slowly open. Inside an empty room which is dark. His eyes then suddenly turn red. His heart monitor rapidly beats. He then screams in agony and pain, the spider lives in him through mind and spirit. His soul has become a darker image. Not one human can describe. The Spider-Man is alive! Now faced with an untimely challenge which is himself. He must face reality and come in terms with who he has become while controlling the monster within".

He then finds out dark hidden secrets as such the robber was actually Harry Osborn. The robbery was staged as an experiment and the hospital is an underground test chamber in the basement of Oscorp. He is put through months of inhumane scientific experiments until he escapes into the world. He is introduced to another new side of him.

I would describe this approach as what if a monster is a superhero. What if he turns out to be something else. It brings out something more immense and darkly evil. This is the Spider-Man film we need. Horror has been rarely translated into comic books and this would be the perfect character to rest the element with. It has all the elements in the original except toned down. It needs to be toned up. This is a man who becomes a spider. It should be scary not friendly. It should be a nightmare and fear for everyone. Most of Spider-Man's own villains have been based around this dark element, so why not the main character himself in a more extremely violent gothic version of Peter Parker.

I know some of you may not agree with this idea since he has been in fact based as a more comedic friendly superhero. Why not take a risk and try it. This is something that would greatly improve the characters success testing it on a whole new level.

Well what do you think of this formula? Please state in the comments below. Thank you for reading.

WTF??
Why make something like this? Just to branch a character out in a different direction? Just to be different?
The only way I see this working is as a "What If" comic arc.
Part of Spidermans appeal is his everyman background, his pure joy and excitement at having superpowers. Its what makes him special. To turn his story into a horror film would take away everything he is about, and everything fun about him.
Sorry, man, but for me,I will have to pass.

It's called The Amazing Spider-Man.

That is what they were trying to do with it, right?

The editorials on this site are essentially like essays and the teaser paragraph should be treated like it was part of the essay and not "Hello, I am here to introduce a brilliant blah blah blah...........

If this was a school or college essay would you begin it with "Hello, my idea is..."? No, you would not.

Spider-Man generates a considerable amount of revenue from toys, snacks, clothing for kids etc. There is no way this story could be endorsed for film.

I would actually love to see that. To have a superhero within a dark horror film would add a level of tension never seen before on film ... however, audiences probably would not receive it well and may be best suited for an out-of-continuity graphic novel.
Characters like Venom, the Lizard, and Mysterio could make awesome horror villians!

@6of13

LMAO does this site look like a school or college to you, man you must be a hard worker take a break. Your the one to tell it to me too. To me the teaser paragraph is something I barely give a crap about, it's not as important as the actual material being written. That's why I just write something short to introduce the idea I am talking about.

@xcrementus

Welcome back my good hating buddy! I have many more editorials coming up throughout the year so prepare yourself. I also think you should get an early start writing out some drafts for hate comments, it's hard to keep it fresh and original. Just some pointers buddy, anyways I enjoy your comments towards me since I know someone cares!

To me this idea would brilliantly work. It's not about who the character is marketed towards we know he has all these snacks and toy stuff for kids like 6of13 said. If we keep thinking in that mind set we are just going to loose actual sight of the character themselves and who they are essentially. Look at a character like The Punisher who has made an appearance in Marvel Super Hero Squad, may I remind you that was a KIDS show. There's even toys on the show based on him and even Deadpool. So I think it's easy to break out of these barricades in this day and age.

This would be the biggest disgrace to the Spider-Man name since that God awful Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

Nah its too dark for Spidey- yes there are dark elements to the story, but he's a mix between those and lighter, comedy elements and that's what makes him so likeable. However, some of the ideas you came up with would be very interesting to see...maybe an adapted/fleshed out version of Spider-Man Noir?

I only read the first bit, up til he eats Uncle Ben... definitely would never ever be made as a movie. Ever.

Based on what I read though, it could work as a graphic novel set in an alternate reality.

This would only work as a What If comic. MAYBE. This is not Spider-Man. Spidey has dark moments in many stories, but he is not really a dark character. It's just that dark things happen to him and around him. He is pretty light hearted as a character. He's not like Batman. And he certainly is not like what you wrote him as being. So...I'm going to have to say that I disagree with your view of how he should be portrayed....COMPLETELY.

Maybe in comics, or in the animated series from the 90'2 but a "horror" Spiderman film would never work on the big screen especially when you incorporate the general audience not to mention little kids.

Remember: FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD Spiderman, not Ghost Rider
