Here are my reasons this summer's Spider-Man film needs a chance.

Everybodys knows that so far the reception from Mark Webb's latest film, based of the Marvel Comics, The Amazing Spider-Man has recieved mix reactions. Despite the great cast, alot of the critisism has been towards Spidey's new suit and the look of The Lizard. I won't lie, I've been somewhat critisizing the film. Alot of the critisizim I feel has been towards the fact that NOBODY including me is exactly happy with the fact that the franchise has been rebooted. But here are my reasons that this latest incarnation and this summer's comicbook underdog deserves a view.

1: The cast: This is something that has to be a reason to be excited. Yea they don't EXACTLY look like their comicbook counter parts but they still look the part PLUS their great actors. Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen and Sally Feild. Are you kidding me? There is no reason why this cast for this film can't get a view.

2: The Untold Story: That is the films tagline, this has gotten critisizim as well for people asuming it's the same story as before....WRONG! It's called the untold story for a reason, it's a different story than the original trilogy, plus the depth of the story and characters give it the obvious that this is carrying more in touch with the comics depth.

3: More in touch with the comics: As stated before it's more in deoth and in touch with the comics. Web shooters, Gwen being Peter's first real love, Peter's parents. It keeps it in reality, keeps it more like the comics, more relatable, Peter also has the humor when he's Spider-Man which is something the fans have been dying for, for a long time. But yet you still complain? What the hell people?!?!?!

4: Director: Mark Webb may have only had one feature film, 500 Days of Summer. So doing a film like this for a second film is pretty risky, but he seems to understand the character and between him and James Vanderbilt they seem to understand the characters more than Alvin Sargent and Sam Raimi. Mark Webb is a great director and he made a great film, so it's kinda hard not to be excited for the new Spider-Man film.

5: More of a say: In the previous trilogy, Sony had more say than Raimi. This time they let the director have a little more freedom which from the look of the trailers may make for a better film.

6: Slightly darker: Since Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, people have been expecting Superhero movies to be darker, to be honest it doesn't always work like that. This Spider-Man film seems to be a little darker than the original trilogy, it helps the fact that the film's villain is a monster.

Whatya think? I tried to add more depth and explination into my reasons. Agree or Disagree with them? Comment your thoughts below.

A lot of good points but i think people can't help but feel the realism and darkness is a reaction to dark knight, which was it's rival franchise until avengers was announced. I think people are just skeptical this movie is coming from the right place and for good reason, inexperienced directors, bad production decisions in the previous movies.

You sell Raimi a bit short here as the first two spider-man films are pretty dead on monuments to that old age of spider man comics (which is why you saw a sappier more romanticized peter parker). The fact he screwed up 3 so bad and venom is more of a tragedy then a given, but hey the studio needed venom crobar'd in to please us horrible fans.

I'd be happy to see a quick witted young spidey fighting the lizard but, Being dark isn't enough, i think Raimi made a couple smart movies, i just hope this isn't trying too hard.

@DoodPool: I never meant to sell him short, I loved his trilogy though the third was rushed. I thought the darkness for this movie wasn't really necessary but it was the predictable move.

I am looking forward to the new movie and I hope it delivers and maybe possibly be better.

I have alot of faith in this movie. They're doing a great job of mixing the grittiness with comedy(Basing that from what we've seen).

You make alot of great points.

i'm giving it a chance already,i like what i'm seeing.the only thing i think will piss me off is if uncle ben doesn't die.

I honestly think that these films have the potential,to become the greatest comicbook movie franchise of all time,as long as they stay true to the character.

At least half of people interested in this movie are fine with the fact that it's a reboot. Thank god they did reboot it! Imagine what Spider-Man 4 would have been like. Uuugghhh. Maybe it is a little bit to early for a reboot, but I'm not complaining! It looks fantastic!

I was going to do an article similar to this, but I think you make the points come across well. Great job! This just recently became my 2nd most anticipated film this summer (The Avengers being the first).

TASM has many my favorite villain the Lizard, but other than that not much else. Two are the worst things.

First is Garfield. His voice isn't as interesting as it should. Say what you want about Maguire, but his voice was Spider-man. Also it's his looks. He does looks like Parker, but not like a student. He looks thirty.

Second it's the realism. Not only looks like BB, but it has the web-shooters. I hate web-shooters, even in the comics. Organic web is the best thing that Raimi had done.

@MrSuperheromoviefan: I agree with the Tobey Maguire thing, and The Lizard is my favorite supervillain of all time and it kind of does look like BB. But they wanted to go closer to the source material but I respect your opinion.

@ Marvelfreek94

yeah you have a point,i believe there was a interveiw with the director the other week & it said something along the lines of his uncle death wasn't the reason he became spider-man.

Raimi's Spider-Man movie were cheesy as shit. Spider-Man's personality wasn't captured correctly and Parker was a whiny bitch in all three movies. The only badass thing that came out of movies was Dr. Octopus.

@Bastard: I said it being darker might make for a better movie, I never said a dark movie made a good movie.

I was originally a supporter of this film- til I saw the trailer and it's ugly greenscreen backdrops and artificial-looking CGI Lizard. Brought back memories of 'Green Lantern'. And I found the comedy to be quite lame, as well.

@Everyone: Well I apologize for un-intentionally putting Raimi down.

I started reading Spidey books back in the Todd McFarlane days. So naturally, I hated SM3. Raimi did an ok job with the first two, but I'll give this reboot a chance, even if it seems way too soon. Webshooters, a smart ass Spidey, and a Peter Parker that's shown as being intelligent, not just implied (thank god), and Emma Stone. That's enough to at least get me in the theater.

Only thing I'm not impressed with thus far is the CGI. Seems like it needs a lot of work.
