In addition to today's earlier announcement that Chronicle actor Dane DeHaan officially signed on for the sequel's ‘Harry Osborn,’ director Marc Webb also announced that Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx will definitely play ‘Electro,’ the super-villain of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And speaking with Entertainment Tonight just hours after Sony's press release, Foxx explained:

“Electro is a great character! I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked,” the Django Unchained actor continued. “I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”

The next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley. The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The untitled new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.

They better change Electro's costume. The one from the comics makes him look like a basketball mascot.

I'm assuming they're going with the Ultimate version of Electro as far as looks go,which is fine by me,the classic origin mixed with the Ultimate aesthetic.

oh,and I hope this doesn't turn into another "Heimdall can't be black" argument,'cause that sh*t is retarded,Jamie Foxx is an Academy Award winning actor, his casting as a villain (one of my favorite Spidey villains) in a superhero movie is full of win.

Forget Jamie foxx... I'm just disappointed electro is the main villain. Unless they're building to the sinister 6 this is a serious waste. Lizard and Electro both getting a movie dedicated to them? I hope the gamble pays off and you get ur "harry potter" out of this Sony... but u better start cranking these movies out much faster...

I'd like to see Electro look something like this:

Honestly, I can't wait to see what Foxx brings to the table. I don't care about his race. As long as he plays the character well (which he most likely will), I couldn't get two shits what color he is.

By the way, stop with the "supposed to be funny" In Living Color Photoshop crap. That was 20 years ago. He's proven himself to be a great actor. Seriously, it's just getting ridiculous and tired now.

can't wait. i hope this is based on the more recent Electro Arc in brand new day where the people rally behind him as a blue collar hero of sorts. and from the sound of it (gets the short end of the stick) that might be what their going for.

So they're basically trying to make each film worst than the last. They are on the right path. Foxx is a good actor, but all I see for him in this villain role is cheese and corn. Cheese Popcorn.

They just cast the biggest name within their budget and now they want to pass it off as a unique choice.

This is a bizzaro world Spider-man series.

I hounestly don't see what would compell them to cast a black man as a white character when there are so many white actors better suited for the role. Even if they decide to go the pure energy route where his "skin" is blue or whatever this is still horrible casting. But I suppose this is a good thing! The more Sony mixes things up with this trilogy the closer to the source material Marvel can stay when they get the rights back! Fingers crossed they go the Ultimate Green Goblin route!

Oh, its another Marc Webb 'Not So Amazing Spider-Man'.

A Not Amazing Spider-Man needs a Not Very Threatening Villain. It fits. It fits!

Foxx will bring his A game and he is a terrific entertainer. I hope they breath life into Electro with the script cause that could be the only thing that can hold him back. I never pictured him in any CBM but he is more than capable.
