Kirsten Dunst Once Again Shares Her Thoughts On Seeing The Spider-Man Franchise Rebooted!

So, what does the former Mary Jane make of the Spider-Man franchise receiving a reboot just a few years after the last movie? And does she plan on seeing The Amazing Spider-Man? Find out here...

In a lengthy interview with Herald Scotland, Kirsten Dunst has elaborated further on how she feels about upcoming reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. After all, it was only four years ago that she and Tobey Maguire were starring in Spider-Man 3 under the direction of Sam Raimi! Here is a brief excerpt from the interview, although you can read the full version (where Dunst talks in detail about her latest movie, Melancholia) by clicking on the link below.

So does it feel strange that The Amazing Spider-Man – as it’s called – is under way without her? "I actually met the people who are playing in Spider-Man and I think they’re great actors," says Dunst. "It’ll be a fun movie. But it’s weird. Usually it happens when people are much older. I’m only 29! It’s like, ‘We need younger, fresher!’ It’s a totally different take on it. It’s not Mary Jane and Peter. It’s Gwen Stacy and Peter." Will she see it? "Of course. I should go to the premiere," she jokes.

We've obviously known for a while that Dunst wouldn't be back as Mary Jane Watson, but does hearing from her again make you wish work had gone ahead on Spider-Man 4? Are you happier with the reboot which will instead focus on Gwen Stacy, played by Easy A and Zombieland star, Emma Stone? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

I could never accept that she was employed as a 'model'. And they gave her MJ's personality as opposed to Gwen Stacy's. Hope they fix that in the Reboot.

I loved Gwen too, but she´s ancient history, back when Peter Parker was like Archie, with his two girlfriends, Betty and Veronica.

I have hundreds of spiderman comics with Mary Jane as the hot wife, long before i was married i was longing for married life.

mary jane isnt in this movie thus the former mary jane has no right to voice her opinions on the reboot

You're not too familiar with the impact that Gwen Stacy's death played in the Spider-Man comics, are you?

I agree with @TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY. Amazing Spider-Man has yet to impress me. Well maybe the Spidey 3 statement was going too far.

Of course I know the story of Gwen, but as many others said, she´s an ancient history and does not have to get involved in the movie. But if you look at it in another perspective, many people have become accustomed to the relationship between Pete and MJ, so they have kind of become one of the most beloved couple. Why destroy the amazing image of the couple with a movie with Gwen? Sorry for my english :)

She was one of the reasons that made me hate the Spider-Man trilogy. And how the bitch get uglier with each movie?

Sorry but MJ was not in the raimi trilogy instead we got a whiny and bitchy redhead who MJ isn't she's the party girl. MJ was the weakest part of the raimi trilogy, so people that think it was perfect need to watch the movies again. Felt like shooting my self everytime MJ was on. Thats not the the feeling one should get when MJ is on screen. Hopefully they do the character justice in the new movies hopefully the introduce but they shouldn't make her love interest straight away. They need to build her up as a love interest, start her of as a friend to Peter.

I think I enjoyed what Raimi was doing in Spiderman 1 & 2, but failed to live up to the hype in 3, and pretty much screwed up everything. It's funny that Dunst "jokingly" will attend the premiere, but I however am pleased to see someone elses take on this franchise. Hopefully, Marvel will continue to please and will tie The Amazing Spiderman into the continuity that is currently being laid with the Avengers.

I'd rather see some other characters make it to the big screen, but I'll be watching this until something new comes along.
I think they are sticking with their cash cows and playing it safe, but you got to admire DC for trying out a new flick. GL was an experiment. (that helps me get through the whole film.)

@Hellsing- My thoughts exactly. She wasn't too bad in the first movie because she that sort of cheery personality and she wasn't played up as much. However, come the second and third movies she became the device that ruined the franchise for me. The films became nothing but a story of how Peter was trying to fix the relationship he f'ed up in the first movie and MJ turned into a overdramatized bitch.

I wish they had made Spider-Man 4 instead. Malkovich was rumored to be playing Vulture and both Rachel McAdams and Anne Hathaway were rumored to be Black Cat. I think Raimi would have redeemed the franchise but nope, Sony screwed it up again. plus, Dafoe would have officially returned in either the 4th or 5th film, so that would have been awesome.

Dunst was awful in all three films. clearly the weak link of the franchise. completely unlike the character and just a bad actress in general.

I am not the least bit excited about The Amazing Spider-Man. at all. here's why:
-Andrew Garfield. not sold on him as Peter/Spidey.
-The Lizard is a rather uninteresting villain and doesn't have that emotional aspect that other villains do.
-making Peter some angry, Emo is WAY out of character for him.
-I absolutely HATE the costume. it's awful.

this may be the Green Lantern of 2012.

She sucked as MJ. Plus, IMO she's not even hot.

I'm still going to see this movie, however, I have 2 issues with it.

1. Too early for a reboot. I would rather have it somehow tie in with Raimi's movies telling a story that happened between Spiderman 1 & 2.
2. I can't stand the actor playing Peter Parker/Spiderman

I am excited to see how the lizard turns out BUT just because you a have a cool looking CGI lizard doesn't mean it's going to turn out to be a great movie.
